Title: NoSQL DBA w/ Linux VM or Linux Virtual Machine
Location: Round Rock, TX (3-4 days per week – onsite)
Please see update below for this role with Dell. We are needing candidates that can work on-site in Round Rock, TX 4-5 days per week. That is a hard requirement. We can now take out OLAM experience but candidates must have Linux VM or Linux Virtual Machine experience.
We had a meeting with the Hiring Manager with Dell this morning. The position does require on-site work in Round Rock, TX 4-5 days per week. The Hiring Manager said that the on-site requirement is mandatory per his leadership. We can only submit candidates that are willing to work on-site in Round Rock, TX at Dell's HQ, 4-5 days per week.
He also said that he knows that OLAM is niche. He is ok with candidates who have experience in Linux VM or Linux Virtual Machine. Candidates must have experience in Linux VM. We no longer need experience in OLAM but must have LVM.
- This is a true hands-on role. The Hiring Manager said the person would get process visibility and standards from the team, but the team will not teach them how to develop automation or manage the databases. He expects a maximum ramp of about one week before the person can operate independently.
- The Hiring Manager said the role is 40% DBA work and 60% automation work, noting that if it were only automation, he would hire a developer, but he needs a DBA who already understands database operations and can automate that work.
In addition to the notes above, please see the must haves listed below.
True must-haves1. Hands-on NoSQL DBA experience across at least two platforms
- Called out the five supported technologies as Cassandra, Neo4j, Elasticsearch, SingleStore, and StarDog, with a minimum expectation of two platforms.
2. Neo4j and Cassandra are the highest-value platform combination
- When asked where the current gap is, the manager specifically said he needs Neo4j and Cassandra with automation skills.
3. Automation development experience is not optional
- The role is modernization-driven, and the manager repeatedly emphasized automation, OLAM, Python scripting, and SDD/spec-driven development.
- OLAM can be replaced with Linux VM or Linux Virtual Machines in the search.
4. Python scripting knowledge
- Python was specifically called out as part of the automation skill set needed for the role.
5.AI-native development / SDD experience
- The Manager confirmed the team is already using Devin and SDD-style work, and he framed strong SDD experience as a key expectation.
6. Linux VM experience
7. Independent hands-on execution
- This is not a consulting/advisory role. The manager said he is not looking for someone who only talks through best practices or refers to documentation. The person needs to be hands-on and able to perform the work.
Please let me know if there are any questions. We are now at square 1 with candidates and needing new candidates to submit to this role that can work on-site in Round Rock, TX for the duration of the interview.
