Public Safety Screener:
Receives emergency and non-emergency telephone calls from staff & the public for Public Safety services; determines the nature of the call and the resources necessary to respond. Monitors Public Safety radio communications; maintains contact with Public Safety units to track officer status and respond to need for additional resources; monitors various radio channels to keep abreast of county-wide activities affecting SMH. Dispatches Public Safety Officers to security issues concerning patients, visitors, personnel, and property. Monitors video surveillance cameras and/or alarms for SMH Main Campus & offsite Ambulatory facilities to identify suspicious activity. Updates and maintains electronic records and logs of data pertaining to calls and activities. Controls access to and egress from sensitive areas. Screens non-emergency calls for service; provides requested information or directs callers to the proper person, department or agency. Communicates with callers to determine the nature of the call and provide appropriate assistance; maintains composure to ensure that complete and accurate information is transmitted to public safety and medical personnel. May assist with the training of new communications personnel. Demonstrates customer service excellence.
An officer assigned to this addendum shall perform a majority, but may not perform all of the duties listed in the immediate job description. Officers assigned to this addendum as "Screening Officers" will be primarily responsible for a fixed post, access control of sensitive areas, screening and identification of individuals entering sensitive areas, and operation of the Visitor Management System.
