The Non-Resident Tax Compliance Analyst is responsible for administering and monitoring the university''s compliance with federal tax laws governing payments to non-resident aliens (NRAs), including international employees, students, scholars, and researchers. This position ensures accurate tax withholding, reporting, and documentation in accordance with Internal Revenue Service {IRS) regulations, tax treaties, and university policies. The analyst serves as a subject matter expert on non-resident tax compliance and collaborates with Human Resources, Contracts and Immigration, and other campus departments. Regular attendance is required to perform the functions of this position. The work hours are generally Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The incumbent must be a highly organized team player with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. They must be able to meet deadlines under pressure while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong customer service skills, along with excellent written and verbal communication abilities, are required. Essential Position Functions & Duties 95% Key Job Responsibilities Administer non-resident alien {NRA) tax compliance Determine U.S. tax residency status using the IRS Substantial Presence Test and other applicable regulations. Review and validate tax documentation, including Forms W-4, W-8BEN, W-BBEN-E, W-8ECI, W-8EXP, W-81MY, Form 8233 Evaluate eligibility for income tax treaty benefits and ensure compliance with treaty Coordinate the accurate withholding of federal income taxes, Social Security, and Medicare taxes for international employees in accordance with IRS Prepare, review, reconcile, and distribute annual Forms 1042-S and support year-end reporting Ensure accurate taxation of wages, scholarships, fellowships, stipends, prizes, awards, and other payments made to non-resident Monitor compliance with IRS regulations related to nonresident alien taxation and Maintain complete and accurate tax records while ensuring confidentiality of employee Research federal tax law, IRS guidance, tax treaties, and regulatory updates affecting international employees Assist with payroll tax audits and provide documentation requested by internal and external auditors. Develop and maintain written procedures related to non-resident tax Provide guidance and training to Payroll, Human Resources, International Student and Scholar Services hiring departments, and campus administrators on non-resident tax Respond to inquiries from employees, scholars, departments, and government agencies regarding tax compliance requirements.
