Position Overview:

The Tactical Network Engineer provides hands-on engineering and technical support for Army tactical communications systems, ensuring reliable integration and operation across complex network environments. This role operates at the intersection of network architecture and field execution, translating high-level design concepts into functional, mission-ready capabilities.

The engineer will configure, validate, and troubleshoot network systems in both lab and operational environments, supporting the delivery of resilient communications across SATCOM, terrestrial, and emerging transport technologies. This position also contributes to systems engineering efforts by identifying integration issues, supporting network performance analysis, and ensuring alignment with broader architectural objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Network Configuration & Validation:
Configure, integrate, and verify network devices including routers, switches, firewalls, and VoIP systems in accordance with established technical baselines and architectural guidance
  • Troubleshooting & Operational Support:
Perform Tier 1/2 diagnostics and fault isolation across tactical network systems; resolve issues or coordinate escalation for complex engineering challenges
  • Technical Documentation:
Maintain accurate configuration records, test results, and issue logs; provide reporting to support ongoing engineering and architecture development efforts
  • Field & Site Support:
Deliver hands-on support at Army installations and operational environments, including setup, sustainment, and troubleshooting of tactical network equipment
  • System Integration Support:
Collaborate with systems engineering teams to resolve integration challenges and support implementation of evolving requirements across tactical and enterprise environments
  • Architecture Alignment:
Apply understanding of network design principles, including routing protocols and multi-path transport (SATCOM, cellular, terrestrial), to support effective troubleshooting and system optimization

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Education / Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field OR minimum 4+ years of relevant experience supporting tactical communications systems
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Experience with Army tactical network systems (e.g., WIN-T or similar environments)
    • Familiarity with Cisco technologies (routers, switches, firewalls, voice systems)
    • Understanding of RF communications, including SATCOM and terrestrial transport
    • Knowledge of core networking concepts (OSI model, IP routing, switching fundamentals)
    • Exposure to systems engineering processes and lifecycle concepts

Desired Qualifications & Skills

  • Familiarity with advanced routing and transport concepts (e.g., BGP, OSPF, multi-path routing)
  • Understanding of hybrid transport environments (LEO/GEO SATCOM, 5G, terrestrial radio, fiber)
  • Experience with enterprise services such as DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, and collaboration platforms
  • Prior military or contractor experience supporting tactical communications systems
  • Basic understanding of DoD acquisition lifecycle and systems engineering disciplines (SPRDE)
