Summary:

• The nuclear medicine/PET radiographer will be responsible for the following: acquisition and processing of all nuclear medicine and PET/CT exams, perform quality control on all nuclear medicine related equipment both imaging and non-imaging and receive all incoming RAM packages. These packages will be documented and handled appropriately per regulation. The NMT will prepare and administer the appropriate radiopharmaceuticals following the department\'s procedure manual and record the necessary data. Prior to administration, the patient will be identified by at least their full name and date of birth. Imaging procedures will be performed as outlined in the procedure manual. The technologist will explain and answer any questions the patient may have prior to beginning the procedure. Patient care will be delivered while always ensuring patient safety practices and guidelines are met. The NMT will perform all tasks following the ALARA concept to insure that levels of radiation exposure do not exceed those defined under ALARA and Federal/State agencies.

Responsibilities:

• Dose Calculations and Administration/Radiopharmacya. Prepare appropriate radiopharmaceuticals for use following procedure manual and record necessary data in computer for dose calculationsb. Receive, open, log and check in all incoming packages and enter into the computer systemc. Calculate, dispense and administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients undergoing procedures in nuclear medicine. Verify patient identity by at least full name and date of birth. Record all data into the computer system.d. Follow NRC, State and TJC when dealing with all radioactive material used in nuclear medicine

Imaging Proceduresa. Explains and answers questions to patients having nuclear medicine procedures done in nuclear medicineb. Visually checks to see that patient and all necessary patient records are present in nuclear medicinec. Places the patient on the imaging table and explains the positioning, instrumentation and time to complete testing to the patientd. Performs dynamic, static and/or SPECT, SPECT/CT or PET/CT imaging procedures on patient in accordance to procedure manual, processes study to be reviewed by nuclear medicine physician staffe. Observes patients for changes and can initiate CPR as necessaryf. Checks quality of images and checks QC on instruments to ensure that quality images are obtainedg. Communicates with physician as to patient's studies and communicates results to designated hospital personnel where indicatedh. Enters patient data into Penn Chart to ensure that patient information is correcti. Instructs students of nuclear medicine when indicatedj. Maintains neat and clean work area and replaces supplies and/or equipment, prior to each examination and rotation

Instrumentationa. Operates imaging equipment and related computer systems along with support equipmentb. Perform QC procedures on equipment and can troubleshoot minor problems prior to reporting them to first line supervisorc. Records and maintains standard imaging logs and records to conform to TJC and NRC/State standardsd. Checks operation and calibration of survey equipment and monitoring devices against known standardse. Reports to first line supervisor any problems with imaging or survey equipment

Non-Imaging ProceduresOperates all laboratory auxiliary equipment for routine laboratory proceduresb. Performs venipuncture, separates and labels blood componentsc. Prepares samples for counting and stores waste by-products in safe aread. Does QC procedures on all laboratory equipment

Radiation SafetyReceives and checks all incoming radionuclide shipments for contamination according to NRC/State regulationsb. Disposes of radioactivity and contamination in accordance with RSO and NRC/State regulations, recording all radioactive waste storage and disposals properlyc. Has knowledge of and uses appropriate instrumentation or other devices, monitors to insure that levels of radiation do not exceed those defined under the ALARA concept and Federal/State agenciesd. Provides a safe environment for patient studies to ensure that patient exposure is in line with ALARA concept

Machines, Tools and Equipmenta. Must be able to operate all nuclear medicine equipment such as gamma camera, computers, SPECT/CT and PET/CT systems and radiopharmacy equipment. Must be able to deal with emergency supplies and routine patient care supplies

Credentials:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
• ARRT or NMT or NMTCB or RT (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

• H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
• Education Specialization: Equivalent Experience:
• Other (Required)
• Education Specialization: Completion of an accredited Nuclear medicine program Equivalent Experience:
