Responsibilities & Requirements

The Nuclear Medicine Tech performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using radioactive materials to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. This role ensures patient safety, regulatory compliance, and high quality imaging while providing compassionate care and clear communication throughout the procedure. Performs other duties as assigned. All job responsibilities are to be carried out in alignment with Kettering Health's mission, vision, values, and B Safe program.

Required Education

• Associate degree in nuclear medicine technology or closely related field from an accredited program. 

Required Work Experience

• Clinical experience in nuclear medicine technology through an accredited educational program or equivalent clinical training. 

Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations

• Current Ohio license as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (in accordance with Ohio Revised Code 4773).
• Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Nuclear Medicine.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire

• Proficient in operating nuclear medicine imaging equipment and administering radiopharmaceuticals.
• Strong knowledge of radiation safety protocols and regulatory compliance.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills. 
• Ability to assess patient needs and provide compassionate care.
• Attention to detail in documentation and record keeping.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. 

Essential Functions 

• Prepares, calculates, and administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients in accordance with physician orders and safety protocols.
• Operates nuclear medicine imaging equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images as prescribed.
• Explains procedures to patients, answers questions, and ensures patient comfort and safety throughout the process.
• Monitors patients for adverse reactions and responds appropriately to emergent situations. 
• Adheres to radiation safety procedures to minimize exposure to patients, self, and others.
• Performs quality control and routine maintenance checks on imaging equipment and promptly reports malfunctions.
• Accurately documents procedures, patient information, and radiopharmaceutical usage in the electronic health record.
• Maintains inventory of radiopharmaceuticals and related supplies, ensuring proper storage and handling.
• Follows infection control, HIPAA, and organizational policies to ensure compliance and patient confidentiality.
• Participates in ongoing education and training to maintain certification and stay current with advances in nuclear medicine technology.
• Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care and workflow.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nuclear medicine technology or a related health science field.
• One or more years of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist in a hospital or outpatient imaging setting.
