The Nuclear Medical Tech 2 arranges patients for NM examinations. Produces NM images to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems. Prevents patient from being exposed to unnecessary radiation. Ensures patient safety through preparation calibration and administration of radiopharmaceuticals. Utilizes departmental policy to perform safe operation of equipment and all functions of the job. Provides complete pre and post education to patients and family. Initially, may require instruction and guidance to accomplish the job and should develop into performing work under general supervision. Able to evaluate competency level of others as preceptor. Reports to Supervisor or Manager.

Education
Graduate of an accredited school for Nuclear Medicine Technology

TECHNICAL TASKS
Exhibits working knowledge of all Nuclear Medicine equipment and procedures as outlined in the Department protocol manual. Has completed required competencies for equipment and procedures in Nuclear Medicine.
Refers to physician''s orders/chart for any special instructions that may be indicated. Corroborates clinical history with procedure ordered.
Routinely questions the patient before procedure to obtain patient''s history. Asks females of child bearing age if they may be pregnant
Explains procedure completely to facilitate cooperation and alleviate patient anxiety
Documents all pertinent information, i.e., history, tech initials, exception codes, etc., appropriately.
Prepares films for interpretation including pulling all previous films and providing completed work sheets.
Always demonstrates an awareness of radiation safety procedures for self and patient; wears protective clothing when necessary; wears film badge at all times.
Maintains room and work area in neat orderly fashion.
Regularly checks equipment, accessories and supplies; keeps area stocked at all times.
Assumes responsibility for portions of department quality improvement program as requested including QI suggestions, exception reporting, data gathering etc.
Ensure all Nuclear Medicine equipment is maintained and serviced when indicated.
Orders all Nuclear Medicine supplies as needed. Maintains inventory, makes every attempt to control supply costs. Evaluates proposed capital expenditures and makes recommendations.
Assists in other areas of the department as work load permits.
Is available to work a rotating on-call schedule to ensure 24 hour coverage of the Nuclear Medicine department.
Maintains department compliance with regulatory agencies and/or credentials as appropriate.

Performs all scans in an efficient and timely manner without compromising quality
Organizes daily workload so that patient exams are completed on time. Coordinates Nuclear Medicine schedule with other areas to prevent patient waiting between exams. Example: Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, Diagnostic, etc.
Maintains on-call and daily work schedules. Provides on-call schedule to RN on time.
Makes adjustments to daily work schedules as needed to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency for the Nuclear Medicine department. Uses all measurement tools available including HBSI ACTION etc to achieve goals.
Submits completed monthly QA reports to the Administrative Technologist by the fifth working day of each month.
Assists in developing the skills of other staff members, assumes responsibility for student clinical education, and assists with orientation of new employees in the Radiology Department.
Assists in the evaluation of employees under their supervision.
Acts appropriately as Deputy Radiation Safety Officer in the absence of Radiation Safety Officer
