    Job Description

    About the role

The Nuclear Operations Training Manager establishes and leads the accredited-style training and qualification program for Aalo-X operations personnel and provides nuclear-operations training support to CTR and Aalo-0. The Manager owns the systematic approach to training, qualification standards, examination integrity, instructor performance, training records, and continuing-training program. The role reports to the Senior Vice President, Nuclear Operations but is responsible to and works closely with the Plant Operations Director, Nuclear Facility Managers, Engineering, Nuclear Safety, ES&H, Quality, and Maintenance to provide necessary training. Expectations are to own your program, be proactive in identifying training needs, and provide the best training in the industry. Training is a fundamental necessity for safe and compliant performance. Join this team and you will have senior management support for your mission.

    What you'll do

    • Build and maintain initial and continuing training programs for Shift Managers, Senior Reactor Operators, operators, and operations-support personnel using a systematic approach to training. These programs must be DOE compliant and preferably developed for future transition to NRC.
    • Develop position-specific qualification standards, task analyses, learning objectives, lesson plans, examinations, simulator scenarios, on-the-job training guides, oral boards, and in-plant evaluations.
    • Establish and protect examination security, test-item quality, grading standards, remediation requirements, qualification-board practices, and independent review of training products.
    • Define prerequisites and experience requirements for each operating position and verify personnel are trained, evaluated, and formally authorized before independent assignment.
    • Integrate plant design, safety basis, operating limits, procedures, lessons learned, operating experience, modifications, and corrective actions into training content before affected work is performed.
    • Develop and qualify instructors and evaluators; establish expectations for technical accuracy, instructional skill, coaching, observation, and documented performance feedback.
    • Plan simulator capability, fidelity, scenario development, configuration control, maintenance, and use to support startup, normal operations, transients, abnormal events, and emergencies.
    • Maintain complete, auditable training and qualification records, including attendance, examinations, evaluations, waivers, extensions, remediation, and requalification status.
    • Measure training effectiveness through field observations, performance trends, examination results, event reviews, and supervisor feedback; correct weaknesses through the corrective action program.
    • Provide readiness evidence and knowledgeable support during internal assessments, independent reviews, DOE oversight, and authorization decisions.

    Qualifications

    • 10 or more years of progressively responsible nuclear operations, operator training, or licensed-operator experience.
    • Five or more years leading or administering an operator training and qualification program in a commercial nuclear power plant, DOE nuclear facility, naval nuclear program, or comparably rigorous operating organization.
    • Current or previously held NRC Senior Reactor Operator license, NRC-certified instructor qualification, DOE SRO certification, or equivalent senior operator/instructor qualification strongly preferred.
    • Demonstrated command of the systematic approach to training, qualification standards, examination development and security, remediation, continuing training, and training-effectiveness evaluation.
    • Experience developing control-room, simulator, and in-plant training for startup, normal operations, reactivity control, abnormal events, emergencies, work control, and conduct of operations.
    • Demonstrated ability to translate design, safety-basis, procedure, and operating-experience information into accurate, usable training products.
    • Experience supporting startup, commissioning, power ascension, first-of-a-kind facilities, or major program recovery preferred.
    • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physical science, nuclear technology, education, or a related field preferred; substantial directly applicable experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.

      Requirements:
    • Based in the United States
    • Willing to work on-site in Idaho Falls, ID
    • Able to support rotating-shift training, simulator sessions, critical tests, outages, and emergent qualification needs
    • Able to satisfy applicable site-access, information-protection, fitness-for-duty, and emergency-response requirements
