What You Will Do

The Nuclear Process Infrastructure (NPI) Division is seeking senior leaders to serve as Group Leaders for mission-critical areas including, but not limited to, nuclear materials and TRU waste shipping and plutonium capability transuranic waste management. These roles provide enterprise-level leadership for nuclear materials operations, waste management, transportation, and disposition activities supporting high-consequence national security and nuclear facility missions.

In this role, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for large, multidisciplinary organizations, ensuring safe, secure, and compliant execution of nuclear materials and waste operations. You will partner with senior leadership, regulators, and stakeholders to deliver mission outcomes while maintaining the highest standards of safety, security, quality, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership for large technical and operational organizations supporting nuclear materials and TRU waste operations.
  • Ensure compliant handling, storage, packaging, certification, transportation, and accountability of nuclear materials and waste.
  • Integrate safety, security, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements into all operational activities.
  • Oversee workforce planning, training, staffing, and organizational development.
  • Manage budgets, schedules, and resources while driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with senior leadership and external stakeholders to execute mission-critical programs and resolve complex operational challenges.

What You Need

Minimum Requirements

Leadership
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams, supervising personnel, resolving conflicts, mentoring staff, building teams, managing staffing needs, motivating employees, and developing personnel to achieve organizational goals.

Knowledge and Expertise
  • Experience coordinating work activities, managing priorities, tracking progress, and reporting status to support organizational goals.

Communication
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively through written and oral communication, build strong interpersonal relationships, and interact with personnel and customers at all levels.

Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field and 8 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

426.2A: Requires a bachelor of science degree in engineering or related science, and 4 years nuclear experience. Job-related education or experience may be substituted on a case-by-case basis. The degree may substitute up to 50% of the experience requirement per section of I4.e of the CRD.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in nuclear operations, materials management, radioactive waste, and radioactive material transportation.
  • Knowledge of DOE, NNSA, EPA, DOT, and DNFSB requirements.
  • Leadership experience in high-consequence or regulated operational environments.
  • Active DOE Q Clearance.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
