    Description of Work

    Broughton Hospital (BH) is currently accepting applications for a Nurse Consultant I - Nurse Clinician. This pivotal role offers an exciting opportunity for an expert-level Registered Nurse to influence clinical practice, elevate quality of care, and support the ongoing growth of nursing excellence across the facility.

    The Nurse Clinician serves as a highly skilled clinical consultant to Nursing Services, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care in alignment with regulatory standards and best practices. In close collaboration with Nursing Leadership and front-line staff, individuals in this role help design, refine, and enhance nursing programs throughout assigned service areas.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
    1. Guiding the development and improvement of nursing programs
    2. Partnering with leaders and staff to strengthen clinical practice
    3. Creating and updating policies, procedures, and training materials
    4. Leading the Nursing Performance Improvement Program, including planning, facilitation, and evaluation
    5. Serving as a catalyst for system-wide change and as a role model for advanced nursing practice
    6. Providing expert consultation rooted in strong communication, teamwork, and clinical knowledge

    MANDATORY POSITION NOTICE: This position is designated as Mandatory. The selected candidate must be able to report to work and remain onsite during adverse weather conditions or other emergency situations as required.

    Salary Range: $62,044.00 - $102,371.00

    Recruitment Range: $62,044.00 - $102,371.00


    *A Sign-On Bonus of $10,000.00 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on Budget Approval.

    The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/Management Preferences are not required.


    Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

    • Demonstrated experience working as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team
    • Experience providing individual guidance, support, and educational instruction to staff members
    • Experience in developing and/or presenting educational materials, as well as experience in data collection and/or analysis
    • A minimum of two years of experience practicing as a Registered Nurse
    • Experience working as a Registered Nurse in a psychiatric care setting



    Per G.S. 126-5 (c1) (37), this position is Exempt from all provisions of NC General Statute Chapter 126 (State Human Resources Act) with the exception of Articles 6 and 7.


    Usual Work Hours:

    Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM


    Flexibility is required for education and training purposes and to meet the needs of the facility.


    *ELIGIBILITY FOR SIGN-ON BONUS

    To qualify for the Sign-On Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a pro-rated rate.


    An employee is NOT eligible for a Sign-On Bonus if:

    • The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date).
    • The employee has previously received a Sign-On Bonus from any State agency.
    • DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.

    ABOUT THE FACILIITY:

    • Broughton Hospital is one of the three regional psychiatric hospitals with statutory responsibility for operating as part of the Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities (DSOHF). With the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, we provide help and support to North Carolinians, and their families, experiencing mental illness. Our hospital serves the western thirty-seven (37) counties of North Carolina, as part of the state's system of care and treatment for persons with mental illness.
