Primary Purpose:

Implement district health services program to best meets the needs of the student population throughout the district. Provide health services to students. Promote health and safety education for students and preventive health practices for students.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree from accredited university (preferred)

Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program

Valid registered nurse license (RN) from the Texas Board of Nursing or from a state participating in the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC)

Current automatic external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificates

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects

Ability to implement policies and procedures

Knowledge of basic first aid

Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

3 years nursing experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Nursing Services

  • Develops, Implements district-wide Health Protocols
  • Ensure compliance with district, local, state, and federal health regulations
  • Assist/Lead SHAC Committee
  • Coordinator of Chronic Care Plans
  • Managing Infectious Disease Reporting
  • Training for District Nurses & Staff
  • Develops Orientation and Professional Development Lead for Nurses
  • Lead coordinator of R10 & State Nursing Information
  • Provides training to school personnel on health topics (seizures, allergies, narcan, choking prevention, CPR/AED)
  • Manages medicine administration system across campuses
  • Serves as liaison of Hazel Health
  • Ordering supplies for the overall nursing department
  • Supervisor for district nurses, LVNs, health assistants, and student interns
  • Coordinates mandatory health screenings and reports to appropriate authorities (hearing, vision, scoliosis)
  • Primary liasion between school district, families, community health providers and health department
  • Coordinates with a local doctor to provide all life-saving emergency medications: inhalers, Naloxone, Epinephrine
  • Works with Athletic Training staff and campus nurses to ensure AEDs are available as required
  • Maintains health records for district
  • Serves on district safety committee and crisis response/reunification team
  • Lead the nursing department in professional manner supporting and supervising all staff

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Direct the work of all RN's, licensed vocational nurse (LVN) and assigned health clinic aide(s).

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard medical clinic equipment including automated external defibrillator (AED); special needs adaptive equipment; standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Posture: Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension

Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and position of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting nonambulatory students

Environment: Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
