POSITION SUMMARY:
The Nursing Department Director is a registered nurse with 24 hour/day accountability for the delivery of patient care, treatment and services provided on his/her assigned unit.
ESSENTIAL CORE FUNCTIONS AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
Management of Department Personnel:
· Provides effective leadership and supervisory support to staff
· Selects qualified and competent employees
· Ensures that all employees are provided with appropriate orientation and in-services
· Projects and coordinates sufficient staffing to meet patient care needs
· Assures that qualifications and competencies of all employees are current
· Conducts formal evaluations according to policy
Leadership Responsibilities:
· Communicates Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center’s vision and priorities
· Facilitates development of a team whose vision and priorities are aligned with those of Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center
· Establishes performance expectations and provide coaching to achieve positive results
· Empowers staff to make decision by providing information and tools
· Role Models ICARE standards
· Fosters teamwork, effective communication and collaboration among all departments
· Continually seeks, analyzes and enhances patient care and services to meet and exceed the needs and expectations of the customer
Fiscal Management:
· Anticipates department needs relative to finances, space and resources
· Manages personnel resources and adjusts to changing work-load, staff absence, and other needs within parameters of staffing targets
· Responsible for appropriate equipment purchase
· Monitors and ensure compliance with the department budget
Patient Care and Advocacy:
· Formulates, reviews and revises policies and procedures
· Monitors quality and appropriateness of patient care. Evaluates information, identifies and resolves problems.
· Assures that department complies with all patient satisfaction goals and JCAHO standards
· Understands the approaches and methods of performance improvement
· Facilitates the staff in solving problems and addressing patient care issues/problems
· Participates in appropriate hospital committees and task forces specific to department services

· Prioritizes assignments and completes in a professional, timely manner
· Utilizes sound judgment and critical thinking skills in making decisions related to patient care and employee issues

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:
Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing required
Master’s degree strongly preferred from an accredited institution
Minimum of 5 years in a Management-level role preferred
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
· State of Florida RN License required at hire
· BLS within 30 days
· National Specialty Certification required
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:
At least 3 years nursing experience with leadership responsibilities
HCA Florida Gulf Coast Hospital is a 238-bed acute care hospital. For 40 years, we have served Bay County and the surrounding communities. We are an accredited facility offering comprehensive care. This includes advanced cardiac assessment and treatment. We offer certified women's services. Our hospital has dedicated spaces for adult and pediatric emergency services. We are certified in Advanced Primary Stroke Care. Our hospital is accredited as a Comprehensive Breast Care Center. We are the area's only Accredited Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI and Resuscitation. Other services that we offer include orthopedic care and joint replacement, robotic surgery, cardiac, vascular, and interventional services. We are home to the only Pediatric ER in the community. We have the only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in the region. Together, we continue to raise the bar in healthcare.
