Job Description Summary:

The School of Nursing at the University of Kansas Medical Center seeks a nurse faculty (clinical or research track) to support the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) in the DNP nursing program. This full-time (12-month appointment), faculty position reports to the Chair, Department of Family, Community, and Health Systems. Appointment, rank and salary are commensurate with experience.

The faculty member will be expected to fulfill the tripartite mission of the School of Nursing: teach, participate in service-related activities that support the school, and engage in clinical scholarship. In addition, as an advanced practice nurse educator, the faculty member is encouraged to maintain a clinical practice.

Job Description:

Job Duties

• Teach nursing students in a variety of courses and settings (didactic courses that are online, in-person, or hybrid, clinical settings, simulation, and clinical laboratory settings) primarily in the DNP program.

• Participate in ongoing course and curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation activities.

• Participate in service-related activities (serving on committees/task forces, mentoring students, etc.) to support the mission of the school.

• Collaborate with other KU nursing faculty and external stakeholders such as health system partners.

• For faculty hired into tenured or tenure-earning appointments:

• Establish and maintain an independent, externally funded research program.

• Disseminate scholarly work in professional publications and presentations at local, state, national, and international meetings, and through publications, town halls, and/or mass media to key stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

Education: Doctoral degree in nursing (DNP or PhD)

This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.

Certifications/Licenses:

• State of Kansas registered nurse (RN) license or eligible.

• State of Kansas Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license or eligible.

• Possess and maintain a current certification as an FNP.

Work Experience:

• One (1) year of clinical experience as an FNP.

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience

• Experience teaching in a nursing program.

• Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating courses.

• Experience serving as or working with clinical preceptors.
