This Nurse Manager – Neuroscience Unit role provides clinical and operational leadership for a 36-bed, telemetry-capable neuroscience unit within a large acute-care healthcare organization in the Greater Baltimore region.
The unit cares for a complex neurological patient population including acute stroke, neurosurgical, epilepsy monitoring (EMU), and neuro progressive care patients. The Nurse Manager is accountable for patient outcomes, staff performance, regulatory compliance, and daily unit operations, serving as a visible leader and clinical resource.
Ensure safe, age-appropriate, evidence-based patient care during all hours of unit operation
Lead, coach, and evaluate nursing staff using objective and timely performance management criteria
Conduct chart audits, PI monitoring, direct observation, and peer evaluations
Establish benchmarks and monitor compliance related to quality outcomes, patient satisfaction, and staffing effectiveness
Maintain clinical competency appropriate to specialty area
Demonstrate proficiency in ethical, legal, and regulatory aspects of patient care delivery
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support neuroscience and stroke-related care initiatives
Active Maryland RN license OR active multistate (compact) RN license (NLC) in good standing
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
3–5 years of hospital Nurse Manager experience
At least 2 years of direct Neuro nursing experience
Basic Life Support (BLS) required
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required within 90 days of hire
Master’s degree in Nursing or related healthcare field
Prior leadership experience in Neuro, Telemetry, or Stroke-focused units
