Position Overview
The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) provides comprehensive healthcare services within a correctional healthcare environment. This role is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients; administering medications and treatments; coordinating patient care plans; and ensuring compliance with applicable healthcare standards, regulations, and policies. The ARNP works collaboratively with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver quality patient care while maintaining safety, confidentiality, and professionalism in a secure environment.
Job Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive nursing care, including executing physician orders, administering medications, performing examinations, and delivering treatments and procedures.
Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess patient conditions and healthcare needs.
Document physical findings, formulate prognoses, and collaborate with physicians and healthcare professionals to develop patient care plans.
Recommend medications and treatments within the scope of licensure.
Monitor inpatient hospitalizations and coordinate appropriate discharge planning.
Ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance of medical equipment and work areas.
Assist in monitoring the delivery of required healthcare services and contractual obligations.
Maintain effective working relationships with facility staff, healthcare personnel, providers, and external agencies.
Apply established policies and procedures while exercising sound independent judgment in patient care and operational decisions.
Evaluate healthcare services to prevent unnecessary or duplicate treatment.
Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of all medical records and documentation.
Monitor and manage patients with serious or potentially catastrophic health conditions.
Recommend process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and cost effectiveness of healthcare services.
Audit pharmacy utilization for compliance with formulary guidelines and applicable pharmacy laws.
Observe, document, and report patient behavior and health status changes.
Provide health education and counseling to patients individually or in group settings.
Review and interpret medical, legal, and technical documents in compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
Participate in legal and administrative processes related to patient healthcare documentation and treatment review.
Communicate professionally and effectively with staff, patients, visitors, and the public in challenging or high-stress situations.
Attend staff and interdisciplinary meetings to support quality improvement initiatives and continuity of care.
Assist in maintaining a safe and secure healthcare environment, including responding to emergencies and unusual incidents.
Support accreditation and compliance efforts related to healthcare standards and regulatory requirements.
Prepare required reports related to safety incidents, accidents, and emergency situations.
Perform emergency response duties, including administering basic emergency medical care when necessary.
Establish and maintain professional working relationships while effectively managing difficult interpersonal situations.
Identify and respond appropriately to potentially disruptive or unsafe situations.
Accurately document and chart all patient care activities.
Analyze information, solve problems, and make sound clinical decisions.
Interpret and follow a wide range of medical, technical, and procedural instructions.
Remain alert and respond calmly and efficiently during emergencies and high-stress situations.
Job Requirements
Current licensure and/or certification as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the state of employment.
Training in family practice required.
Strong knowledge of nursing practices, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and patient treatment planning.
Ability to interpret medical, legal, and technical documents and apply healthcare regulations and standards.
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound clinical judgment.
Ability to work effectively in a secure and fast-paced environment.
Ability to respond appropriately in emergency and high-stress situations.
Valid driver's license required.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Education
Graduate of an accredited college or university nursing program with an advanced nursing degree.
Work Experience
Minimum of one year of professional nursing experience required.
