Job Duties
Evaluate patients in Emergency Room to see if they meet criteria for admission to the Addiction Treatment Unit. Completes comprehensive assessment of new patients admitted to the service, including history and physical, medication reconciliation, problem list and plan of care. |
Experience and/or interest in working with patients with substance use disorders. Experience with opioid agonist therapies (buprenorphine and methadone). Performs assessment and plans for ongoing treatment for patients in the service and documents thoroughly. |
Provides medication monitoring, counseling and motivational interviewing as necessary to assigned patients. |
Orders lab and diagnostic tests for patients in the service as appropriate to formulate diagnosis and develop treatment plans. |
Reviews results of lab and diagnostic tests and adjusts the treatment plan accordingly. |
Plans a response for follow up for patients with abnormal tests results and intervenes with patients according to medical center policy and procedure. |
Assures all entries to the medical record, paper or electronic, are appropriate, timed, dated, signed and legible. |
Promotes throughput for the service by achieving and maintaining medical center expectations for productivity. |
Provides patient education and feedback to promote health and wellness. |
Adheres to all medical center policies and procedures and bylaws of the medical staff. |
Participates in department performance improvement initiatives, collects and aggregates data as needed, work with leadership to develop a plan of correction |
Fosters and promotes teamwork with other staff members of the service as well as providers from other agencies involved with the patient’s care. |
Communicates pertinent information to the supervisor of the service, collaborating physician, treatment team and other community providers as necessary and in adherence to all standards of privacy and confidentiality. |
Performs comprehensive physical examinations, |
Documents in the patient’s record all pertinent patient interactions and care. |
Provides discharge instructions with prescriptions given and follow-up visits arranged, including prescriptions for buprenorphine and other controlled substances when indicated. |
Participates in interdisciplinary quality improvement efforts to improve clinical practice. |

Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Assesses gaps in policies and procedures and creates necessary policies and procedures to fulfill these gaps. |

Other Duties:
Participates in continuing education activities; attends scheduled in-service programs; shares information gained at conferences with colleagues.
Position Qualifications:
Experience working with patients with substance use disorders is strongly preferred. A desire to work compassionately, without stigma, and with a harm reduction approach to patients with substance use disorders is required.
Experience with medications for opioid use disorder (buprenorphine, methadone) and medications for alcohol use disorder (naltrexone, acamprosate, disulfram) or interest in learning about them.
2 years of related nurse practitioner experience is preferred.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills.
Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.
Education:
Graduation from an approved Nurse Practitioner program.
Current NJ licensure and certification as a Nurse Practitioner in internal medicine or family medicine.
BLS certification is required.
Holds current certification for prescriptive privileges (DEA license and NJ Controlled Substance license)
Salary commensurate with experience within posted range
$68.14-$84.60 / Hour | $1.00 more for doctorate & 2% more for Acute Certification
