The Interventional Endoscopy Services (IES) Nurse Practitioner functions in an interdependent role by implementing the appropriate Standardized Procedures (SPs). Utilizing approved Standardized Procedures, the Nurse Practitioner independently performs comprehensive clinical assessments, develops and implements treatment plans, orders and interprets diagnostic studies, manages therapeutic interventions, and modifies treatment regimens based on patient presentation, response to therapy, and clinical findings in accordance with the California Nursing Practice Act.
In collaboration with supervising physicians, attending physicians, fellows, residents, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary care teams, the Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive outpatient clinical management for patients requiring advanced gastrointestinal and interventional endoscopic care. The NP is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based care while promoting continuity of care, improving patient access, and enhancing operational efficiency across the Interventional Endoscopy program.
The NP will provide care through a combination of independent outpatient clinics, shared physician/APP clinics, and virtual telehealth visits, evaluating and managing new and established patients with complex gastrointestinal disorders and those requiring advanced endoscopic procedures. The NP will coordinate care throughout the patient continuum, including pre-procedure evaluation, post-procedure follow-up, long-term surveillance, symptom management, and ongoing care coordination.
Clinical responsibilities include obtaining comprehensive histories and physical examinations; evaluating diagnostic studies; ordering and interpreting laboratory tests, imaging, and specialty procedures; prescribing medications; entering procedure orders; managing referrals; coordinating multidisciplinary care; and providing patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment options, procedural preparation, and recovery.
The NP will provide clinical management for patients undergoing advanced therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including but not limited to ERCP, Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR), Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD), Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM), Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG), Transoral Outlet Reduction (TORe), endoscopic bariatric therapies, pancreaticobiliary interventions, and other advanced endoscopic procedures.
The Nurse Practitioner will independently manage patient communications through the electronic health record, including Epic CareConnect InBasket messages, medication refill requests, review of laboratory and pathology results, coordination of diagnostic testing, and communication with referring providers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely, efficient, and patient-centered care.
The NP participates in interdisciplinary conferences, quality improvement initiatives, program development activities, and educational efforts while serving as a clinical resource for nursing staff and other healthcare professionals. The position collaborates closely with physicians and administrative leadership to improve patient access, optimize clinic workflows, reduce delays in care, and support growth of UCLA Health's Interventional Endoscopy Services.
This is a centralized Advanced Practice Provider position supporting Interventional Endoscopy physicians across UCLA Health community practices, with an emphasis on expanding access and providing comprehensive clinical support. The position is physically based at UCLA Westwood Medical Office Tower, 100 Medical Plaza, Suite 205, and will provide support for community-based Interventional Endoscopy practices, including West Hills and South Bay locations, with travel to additional UCLA Health sites as operational needs require.
