Summary
Northwest Hospital is seeking an experienced Psych Nurse Practitioner for our Emergency Department. This position will be over nights every other weekend.
Job Summary:
- Diagnoses and manages acute, chronic, and episodic illnesses while promoting disease prevention and overall health maintenance.
- Performs comprehensive patient assessments, including medical histories, physical examinations, and psychological/developmental evaluations.
- Orders and interprets diagnostic tests, prescribes medications (including controlled substances when appropriate), and develops evidence-based treatment plans.
- Collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care, obtain informed consent when required, and ensure continuity of patient management.
- Educates patients and families on diagnoses, medications, disease prevention, treatment plans, and healthy lifestyle practices using age-appropriate communication.
- Serves as a patient and family advocate by monitoring patient progress, maintaining accurate documentation, managing crises, and providing timely follow-up care.
- Responds effectively to emergency situations, follows established protocols, communicates with appropriate personnel, and documents events accurately.
- Demonstrates cultural competence, strong communication, conflict resolution, and leadership skills while mentoring staff, students, and members of the healthcare team.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives, committee work, staff education, research, and the development of educational programs to enhance patient care.
- Maintains professional competency through continuing education, specialty conferences, evidence-based practice, and adherence to organizational mission, vision, and standards
Requirements:
- Basic Life Support
- Current Maryland CRNP License
