The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an integral member of the Division of Endocrinology clinical care team. This role provides advanced clinical support to physicians within the General Endocrinology outpatient practice and delivers direct patient care to established patients. The NP will work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure coordinated, high-quality care while maintaining independent clinical sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to deliver seamless, patient-centered care.
  • Support patient flow and clinical management alongside 2\u20133 endocrinologists during office hours.
  • Conduct independent outpatient follow-up visits (four sessions per week) for established patients at the CUIMC campus.
  • Accurately and comprehensively document all patient encounters in EPIC.
  • Provide in-basket coverage for physicians, including responding to patient inquiries, processing prescription refills, addressing pharmacy issues, and escalating clinical concerns as appropriate.
  • Cover physicians during absences (e.g., in-basket management, urgent/sick visits).
  • Facilitate prior authorizations and prescribe refills for specialty medications as needed.
  • Evaluate and manage patients requiring urgent visits.
  • Deliver patient education on disease management, treatment plans, and self-care strategies.
  • Promote EPIC Patient Portal engagement to enhance communication and care continuity.
  • Assist physicians with medical procedures as needed.
  • Stay current with Columbia University clinical policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives as assigned.
  • Adhere to HIPAA, billing compliance, and safety regulations at all times.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent in education and training, plus one to two years of related experience.
  • Current New York State Nurse Practitioner (or proof of application) and Registered Professional Nurse licenses.
  • National Nurse Practitioner Board Certification
  • Eligibility for DEA certification.
  • Eligibility for American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an outpatient endocrinology or internal medicine setting.
  • Proficiency with EPIC electronic medical records.
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to manage a diverse patient population with chronic conditions.

Other Requirements

  • Medical clearance and participation in Medical Surveillance Program

  • Contact with patients and/or human research subjects.

  • Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure.

  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements.
