Job Overview:
The Nurse Practitioner NP possesses expertise in the management of complex responses of individuals, families and communities to actual or potential health problems
The NP serves as nursing consultant, researcher, educator and direct care provider
As Consultant, the NP facilitates problem solving with individuals, families, group agencies, communities and/or interdisciplinary colleagues within and outside of the clinical setting
As Educator, the NP promotes learning efforts of clients, staff, and students within the clinical setting, area schools and institutions of higher learning
The NP as Researcher promotes scientific inquiry in clinical practice and uses research process and findings to improve nursing practice
The NP as Practitioner, models excellence in practice through direct care to selected patients or groups
The NP takes responsibility for enhancement of his/her own professional development.
The position is located in our outpatient Oncology Clinics M-F.
Requirements:
Current NJ RN License
Bachelors Degree in Nursing required
Masters Degree in Nursing required
Current NJ APN Certification, or is eligible for License/certification Highest level of certification in area of expertise
BLS required
Maintains ACLS, PALS and NRP as appropriate to the specialty area
APHSO Cancer Therapy Prescribing Certification
Responsibilities:
Complies with Medication Reconciliation policy
Complies with unit and departmental scheduling guidelines
Delegates and prioritizes work assignments according to the individual associate's competence and patient care needs
Demonstrates proper procedure for care and maintenance of central lines: flushing, blood draws and dressing changes
Demonstrates the ability to recognize hematological and oncological emergencies, and take appropriate action when one occurs
Develops, implements and evaluates a comprehensive plan of care for daily management of hematology/oncology patients: sickle cell crisis, chemotherapy, fever, neutropenia
Evaluates effectiveness, interventions and revises plan of care accordingly
Initiates, maintains and monitors chemotherapy, observing for side effects and biohazardous exposure
