Responsibilities/Job Description:
Fairview Southdale Hospital seeks a Nurse Practitioner to join their Hospitalist Program. This will be a dual role with responsibilities that include acting as a House provider and Hospitalist.
Along with the rapid response team, the House AdvancedPracticeProvider (APP)provides immediate medical care to inpatients, outpatientsutilizinghospital outpatient services, and on-site hospital visitors for urgent and emergency situations 24/7. On site hospitalist physicians are available for back up, however the role islargely autonomous. The Hospitalist APP iscomprisedof multiple roles includingadmittingteam (2), observation, and rounding.
Fairview Southdale Hospital has good ancillary support from dedicated RNs,RN Care Coordinators, Social Workers, Pharmacists, etc.The medical staff iscomprisedof multiple specialty and subspecialty services who work collaboratively to provide comprehensive medical care to the patients at Southdale.
Practice Details:
House Role
- Provides in-hospital medical staff coverage at specified hours as scheduled
- Providesface to face evaluations of in-hospital patients requiring restraint and seclusion
- Responds andleadsall rapid response team calls (examples: altered mental status, chest pain evaluation, respiratory distress, cardiac/resp arrest, etc.)
- Responds to, evaluates and treats in-hospital medical/surgical emergencies and/or inpatient related problems including patient injuries
- Provide preliminary interpretation ofxraysand/or labsincluded in emergency work up
- Participates in disaster emergencies, real and/or practice
- Hours are either days or nights6:30am-7pm and 6:30p-7a
- Weekends are every 3rd rotation
Hospitalist Role
- See patients exclusively in hospital setting
- Provide day and evening inpatient coverage on a rotating basis
- Responsibility of admissions,assistingwith cross coverage, as well as coverage of Observation Unit which is managed by Hospitalist group
- Variable hours including day(7am-6pm)and evening(1pm-midnight)shifts

Qualifications:
- Graduate of a school of nursing and accredited Adult/Gero, Acute Care, or Family Nurse Practitioner training program
- BC/BE through the AANP or ANCC
- Licensed or ability to obtain APRN license with the Minnesota Board of Nursing
- Ability to obtain and/ormaintainDEA certification for the State of Minnesota
- Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges
- Prefer 2 years or more of hospital-based experience in ICU,hospitalistor emergency setting.2-3 monthtraining period for inexperienced APPs that would go through ICU, hospitalist, ED, OR, and house physician rotations, in addition to some didactic work.
