Responsibilities
The position of Nurse Practitioner II in the Department of Urology, requires a highly competent, independent yet team-oriented individual who will be immersed in the management and coordination of all inpatient care for the various divisions of department of Urology.
Duties include and not limited to assessing health needs, planning and evaluating care of all patients on the urology services. The nurse practitioner will participate with inpatient sign out at beginning and end of shift. Follows up with the Urology teams/residents/attending physicians. Will be involved in performing surgical consultations on potential urology surgery patients.
Responsibility for care and organization of procedures (including scheduling operations, interventional procedures, etc) and follow-up, obtain consults as needed, and discharge patients (including discharge summary, instructions, and medications) when appropriate. Triage phone calls. Responsible for the reviewing critical labs, follow-up of results with patient and medical staff, obtaining comprehensive medical histories, performing initial and periodic physical examinations/assessments, and exploring patient's interpretation of health needs.
Incumbent will identify and treat patients and manage treatment of hospitalized patients. The NP demonstrates an advanced level of medical knowledge, clinical/technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professional communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation.
Under the joint supervision of the Vice Chair of Clinical Operations and the Urology Medical Directors and guided by the applicable policies and procedures, the Nurse Practitioner will participate in the comprehensive care of patients in the ambulatory or inpatient settings and provide multi-disciplinary care coordination, treatment, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians.
A Nurse Practitioner is an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) who possesses the advanced education, knowledge, clinical skills and experience necessary to provide advanced nursing care in their area of specialization. This position may perform: \u2022 Functions as appropriate to their "scope of practice" (In general, the "scope of practice" includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures per their approved standardized procedure). Familiarity with state statute for their licenses is necessary. \u2022 Approved privileges are unique to each person and are unlikely to include ALL privileges \u2022 The NP professional may provide patient care in age groups based on educational preparation and at all Health licensed settings and affiliates. \u2022 The NP has responsibility for the standards of care for their specified patient population and evidences self-direction and accountability both to quality of care and in the development of their role within the all Health locations and affiliates. \u2022 Advanced Practice Practitioners (APP) are required to be credentialed to practice and be privileged through Medical Staff to function in their clinical role. Credentialing and approval of privileges must be completed prior to the first working day. \u2022 The NP is accountable to, evaluated, and provided feedback by the supervising/collaborating physician, physician designee(s) in the same clinical specialty, or the Administrative Manager.
