Nurse Practitioner (NP) / Physician Assistant (PA)

Position Summary

A Clinic is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to provide addiction medicine and behavioral health services to individuals seeking recovery from substance use disorders. This position offers a combination of in-person and telehealth patient care and works closely with physicians, counselors, case managers, and support staff to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered treatment.

The ideal candidate will have experience treating patients with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions and will be committed to supporting patients throughout their recovery journey.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive medical and behavioral health assessments for new and established patients.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage substance use disorders, including opioid, alcohol, stimulant, and other addictions.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as clinically indicated.
  • Prescribe medications within scope of practice and state regulations.
  • Participate in Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs, including management of medications such as Suboxone (buprenorphine) and other FDA-approved treatment options.
  • Evaluate and manage patients with co-occurring behavioral health conditions, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and related disorders.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests, toxicology screenings, and other diagnostic studies.
  • Educate patients and family members regarding treatment plans, relapse prevention, medication compliance, and recovery resources.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Collaborate with counselors, therapists, physicians, and case management staff to coordinate care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and clinic regulations.

Telehealth Responsibilities

  • Conduct virtual addiction medicine and behavioral health follow-up appointments.
  • Monitor treatment compliance and medication effectiveness through telehealth visits.
  • Evaluate patients for continuation or modification of treatment plans.
  • Provide patient education and support regarding recovery and relapse prevention.
  • Document all telehealth encounters in the EMR system.

In-Person Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and evaluations.
  • Conduct physical examinations as needed.
  • Initiate and manage treatment plans for substance use disorders and behavioral health conditions.
  • Monitor patients participating in MAT programs.
  • Review laboratory results and toxicology screenings.
  • Coordinate care with counseling and support services.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Active North Carolina NP or PA license in good standing.
  • Current DEA registration.
  • National Board Certification as an NP or PA.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent communication and patient engagement abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Addiction Medicine, Behavioral Health, Family Medicine, or Primary Care.
  • Experience working with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs.
  • Knowledge of substance use disorders and recovery-based treatment models.
  • Experience treating patients with co-occurring mental health conditions.
  • Experience providing telehealth services.
  • Waiver training or experience prescribing buprenorphine/naloxone is preferred.

Schedule

  • Hybrid position consisting of both in-person and telehealth patient care.
  • Flexible schedule based on clinic needs.
  • Weekly hours: 20-30.
  • Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays
