The Pediatric Pain & Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice provider who delivers comprehensive, family-centered care to infants, children, adolescents, and young adults with acute, chronic, complex, and life-limiting conditions. As a member of the interdisciplinary Pain & Palliative Care team, the NP provides expert assessment and management of pain and other distressing symptoms, facilitates goals-of-care discussions, supports complex medical decision-making, and promotes quality of life for patients and families.

The NP collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to address the physical, emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of patients and families through symptom management, care coordination, patient and family education, and interdisciplinary care planning. The NP practices under approved standardized procedures, promotes evidence-based care, and serves as a resource for pain management and palliative care across the continuum of care.

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Master's degree or higher from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a specialty in Pediatric Acute Care.
  • Current California Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), and Nurse Practitioner Furnishing (NPF) licensure.
  • Current National Provider Identifier (NPI) and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
  • Enrollment in PECOS and CURES.
  • Current national certification as a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other clinical software systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively prioritize responsibilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with clinical, academic, and administrative personnel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to document patient care in a concise, accurate, and comprehensive manner.

Preferred:

  • Minimum 1 year of pediatric pain management and/or palliative care experience.
  • Experience managing pain and complex symptom burden in children with serious acute, chronic, or life-limiting illnesses.
  • Experience facilitating family meetings, goals-of-care discussions, and shared decision-making.
  • Experience working within an interdisciplinary team that includes physicians, nursing, social work, psychology, child life, rehabilitation services, and spiritual care.

As a condition of employment, the final candidate who accepts an offer of employment will be required to disclose if they have been subject to any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that they committed any misconduct; or have filed an appeal of a finding of substantiated misconduct with a previous employer.
