About the Job:

The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will function as a primary health care provider in a clinic setting. The NP/PA utilizes the nursing process as a framework for managing patient care. Utilizes advanced health assessment, knowledge, and decision-making skills. The NP/PA works independently and in collaboration and consultation with physicians and other health care providers. The NP/PA manages acute minor and stable chronic illnesses, provides care including comprehensive assessment, ordering of interventions, conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications and providing treatments and therapies of a non-pharmacologic nature.

This role demonstrates advanced nursing practice by independently providing comprehensive, patient-centered care across the lifespan. Using the nursing process, the nurse practitioner conducts thorough assessments, develops individualized plans of care, implements evidence-based interventions, and evaluates patient outcomes to ensure safe and effective treatment. Responsibilities include obtaining health histories, performing physical examinations, identifying health risks, developing differential diagnoses, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments, and coordinating care through interdisciplinary collaboration. The practitioner also ensures accurate and timely documentation, participates in discharge planning, and continuously reassesses and adjusts treatment plans to meet patient needs and health goals.

In addition to clinical expertise, the nurse practitioner serves as an educator, advocate, and leader within the healthcare team. They assess learning needs, provide patient and family education on disease management, treatment plans, preventive care, and self-care strategies, and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching efforts. The role requires strong communication, critical thinking, and delegation skills, as well as appropriate consultation and referral to other healthcare professionals and community resources. Professional responsibilities include maintaining clinical competency and certification, promoting patient and staff safety, participating in quality improvement initiatives, modeling excellent customer service, fostering teamwork, and demonstrating a high standard of work quality, efficiency, accountability, and professionalism in all aspects of patient care and organizational performance.

Requirements:

For Nurse Practitioners (NP):

• Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Current and valid Wisconsin Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner licensure.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advance Practice Nurse Prescriber licensure

For Physician Assistants (PA):

• Bachelor's degree in a health/science-related field.
• Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current and valid Wisconsin Physician Assistant licensure.
• Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
