St. John the Evangelist Catholic School, located in Hydes, Maryland, is seeking a full-time School Nurse for the 2026–2027 academic school year.

The Elementary School Nurse supports the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of students by providing comprehensive school health services within a faith-filled Catholic educational environment. The nurse promotes student health, manages acute and chronic medical conditions, ensures compliance with state and diocesan health requirements, and collaborates with school staff, parents, and healthcare providers to foster a safe, healthy, and supportive learning environment.

Essential Functions

  • Provide direct nursing care, first aid, and emergency response services to students and staff.
  • Assess, treat, and document student illnesses and injuries.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, state regulations, and diocesan policies.
  • Develop and maintain individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic health conditions.
  • Monitor immunization compliance and maintain accurate student health records.
  • Conduct health screenings as required by state law and diocesan guidelines.
  • Identify and manage communicable diseases in accordance with public health regulations.
  • Educate students, families, and staff on health, wellness, injury prevention, and disease prevention.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, parents, and healthcare providers regarding student health concerns.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of health information in accordance with applicable privacy laws.
  • Ensure that the health office is properly stocked and compliant with safety standards.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning and school safety initiatives.
  • Support the mission, philosophy, and values of Catholic education
Position Qualifications 
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Previous pediatric, school nursing, or community health experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of state school health regulations and public health practices.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, faculty, and healthcare providers.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Certification in School Nursing (where applicable).
    • Experience working in an elementary school setting.
    • Familiarity with electronic student health record systems.
    Physical Requirements
    • Ability to lift 30 pounds.
    • Ability to respond quickly to medical emergencies throughout the school campus.
    • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and kneel throughout the workday.
    Work Environment
    • School campus.
    • Frequent interaction with children, parents, faculty, and visitors.
    • Exposure to communicable illnesses and occasional medical emergencies.

    Pay Range:  $45,000 – 55,000, Annualized
