Overview:
The Nurse Resident (NR) has graduated from an accredited nursing program, passed the NCLEX and has provided evidence of licensure to practice in the support of the transition from academic preparation to clinical practice. Under the direct supervision and guidance of a registered nurse preceptor, the NR provides safe, evidence-based patient care while progressively building clinical competence and confidence. Responsibilities may be tailored to meet the educational needs of the residents as well as the requirements of the clinical specialty area.
Qualifications:
Required Education:
Associate's degree.
Specific course work: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required for all areas.

Crisis Prevention Institute training within ninety (90) days of hire or transfer into the position, and then annually, is required for Psych Unit.

Less than one year related experience

One year of clinical experience
Necessary Skills:
1. Knowledge of Regulatory Agency Standards (e.g., JCAHO, HRS), nursing Standards and Florida Nurse Practice.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of a beginning practitioner, basic management skills and ability to serve as a resource for the nursing process.
3. Understanding medical terminology.
