Position Overview:

The Nursery Direct Specialist is responsible for managing all aspects of direct‑ship nursery procurement for large landscape projects. This role oversees bid development, purchasing strategy, vendor sourcing, and transportation coordination to ensure profitable, on‑time, and high‑quality project execution. The ideal candidate excels in fast‑paced environments, builds strong supplier relationships, and consistently delivers margin‑positive results.

Key Performance Expectations

  • Annual direct sales of $1.75M–$2.25M, plus support for store‑level needs
  • Achieve margin targets of $450,000+
  • Spend 85–90% of time managing large direct‑ship orders, including quoting, sourcing, and supplier negotiations
  • Maintain strong seller team relationships through consistent communication
  • Track and improve bid‑to‑quote volume and close rates
  • Allocate 10–15% of time to administrative tasks, including special pricing, submittals, and billing

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare competitive bids and detailed material estimates for direct‑ship nursery projects
  • Source plant material from local, regional, and national growers
  • Negotiate pricing and availability to ensure profitability and timely delivery
  • Develop purchasing strategies aligned with project specifications and timelines
  • Issue and manage Purchase Orders for all nursery stock
  • Coordinate transportation and logistics to ensure accurate and on‑schedule deliveries
  • Maintain strong supplier and carrier relationships
  • Verify material quality, substitutions, and compliance with project requirements
  • Track orders, invoices, and shipment status throughout the project lifecycle
  • Resolve supply chain issues, delivery discrepancies, and material shortages
  • Communicate availability and substitutions to field teams to support efficient bidding and installation
  • Align deliveries with installation schedules and site conditions

Administrative Responsibilities (10–15%)

  • Create and maintain special pricing by MSA to streamline quoting
  • Review pricing quarterly or sooner as needed
  • Manage submittals, documentation, and compliance requirements
  • Oversee billing, invoice accuracy, and issue resolution

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in nursery procurement, landscape supply, or related field
  • Strong understanding of plant material, growers, and regional availability
  • Proven ability to manage large‑scale direct‑ship orders
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and vendor‑relationship skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities
  • Proficiency with procurement systems, spreadsheets, and logistics coordination
