Summary
Use appropriate teaching methods to facilitate student learning for Nursing courses. THIS POSITION IS ON CAMPUS ONLY. REMOTE IS NOT AN OPTION.
Duties
Responsibilities are consistent with the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), New Mexico Board of Nursing (NMBON), and - where necessary - the New Mexico Nursing Education Consortium (NMNEC) guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards.
Teaching load may be comprised of online and/or face-to-face course presentation with clinical laboratory skills and simulation lab as appropriate based on the nursing courses taught.
Based on the courses taught, adjunct faculty are expected to contribute to instruction within the laboratory and/or simulation setting as necessary, while also instructing students in the hospital or other clinical environment.
Faculty are expected to use established nursing curricula and the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
Faculty must maintain a safe working environment and comply with all state and federal safety regulations.
Participation in departmental meetings and special projects is expected when appropriate.
Participation in office hours commensurate with the credit hour load is required.
Supervision of students in class, clinical, and/or laboratory settings is expected, along with utilizing required policies and procedures in the appropriate student and faculty guidelines developed by the School of Nursing.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Background
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) as per accreditation standards.
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred. An education plan will be required for candidates enrolled in an MSN program.
- Clinical background in bedside nursing is required.
- BLS must be current.
- Active, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse (RN) with eligibility for RN licensure in the state of New Mexico.
- Bilingual Spanish preferred.
Job Knowledge
- Supervision of nursing students in the clinical setting.
- Ability to work as a team with nursing and other University faculty.
- Communication skills with critical thinking regarding student supervision.
- Competence in all nursing skills for the pre-licensure BSN level student.
- Must be able to adapt to the instructional needs of the department depending on circumstances.
- Must be knowledgeable of University policies and procedures.
- Must be able to handle multiple deadlines and maintain accuracy.
- Must be sensitive to cultural differences within the University and community.
- Fluent in Microsoft Office Applications.
Working Conditions
Physical Demands:
- With or Without Accommodations: Normal classroom and laboratory environment based on face-to-face or online courses.
- When appropriate, must be able to work in the clinical environment with students and patients up to 12 hours per day, depending on the requirements of the clinical day.
- May be required to lift normal office equipment and materials.
- Able to lift 50 pounds and assist with patient care.
- Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms, and other printed materials and information.
- Able to speak and enunciate clearly in conversation and general communication.
- Hearing ability for verbal communication, conversation, responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
- Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing, and reaching.
- Flexibility of body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, and prolonged sitting.
Other Requirements
a. Location is on campus with the WNMU School of Nursing in Silver City.
b. Valid drivers license.
c. Maintain all necessary licensing requirements for CCNE, HLC, and NMBON.
