Essential Functions

  • Receives hands-on training, observing, assisting professional and higher-level non-professional nursing therapeutic staff.
  • Monitors, records temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, nutritional intake, and output.
  • Alerts professional staff to significant irregularities.
  • Implements prescribed treatment plans involving reality orientation, sensory stimulation, range of motion, exercise, and application of splints and braces.
  • Provides oral and written descriptions of individuals physical and behavioral changes.
  • Observes individual activities, providing oral and written reports of unusual and hazardous behavior.
  • Supervises individuals within facility surroundings, ensuring appropriate location and security.
  • Escorts individuals to social and recreational activities and medical appointments on and off campus.
  • Participates on interdisciplinary care teams, providing information about the individuals overall physical condition, abilities, and behavioral characteristics.
  • Applies appropriate interventions to prevent or de-escalate inappropriate behaviors.
  • Assists individuals with personal hygiene.
  • Maintains individual surroundings, ensuring appropriate infection control, sanitary conditions, care, storage of linens and clothing.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Nursing Assistant

Applicants must have education, training, and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Six months of experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of nursing procedures, such as monitoring or recording temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and nutritional intake and output.
  • Knowledge of narrative report writing.

Conditions of Hire

All new hires are required to attend an in-person statewide mandatory New Employee Orientation on their first day of employment. The session will be held at a designated location in either Kent or New Castle County.

  • Pre-employment Drug Testing: Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.
  • Criminal Background Check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire. The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.
  • Program Requirements: As part of the program requirements, applicants must successfully complete the program and earn their CNA certification through a state-approved school. Approved schools include Bear Institute, Delaware Skills Center, Sussex Tech, and all Delaware Technical Community College campuses.
  • Accuplacer Exam: You may be required to take an Accuplacer exam at no cost to the applicant in order to participate in the program. If you are selected to move forward in the application process, our Nurse Recruiting Manager will reach out to you with details regarding the test schedule.
  • Authorization to Work: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The State of Delaware participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. For more information, refer to our Job Seeker Resources.

Selection Process
