Job Summary

The Nursing & Health Sciences Summer Camp Director is responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of a summer healthcare-focused camp for high school students. This role ensures a safe, engaging, and academically enriching environment that introduces participants to careers in healthcare, medical science, and public health. The Director leads curriculum development, supervises staff, manages logistics, and ensures compliance with all institutional and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership: Design, implement, and oversee all camp activities, schedules, and instructional sessions.

  • Curriculum Development: Develop hands-on, age-appropriate healthcare science lessons, labs, simulations, and career exploration activities.

  • Staff Supervision: Recruit, train, and supervise instructors, counselors, and volunteers.

  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to institutional policies, FERPA and HIPAA-related boundaries, and all safety protocols, including laboratory safety standards.

  • Student Engagement: Promote a positive, inclusive environment that encourages participation, teamwork, and intellectual curiosity.

  • Logistics Management: Coordinate facilities, scheduling, and daily camp operations.

  • Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, staff, and community partners; provide updates and address concerns as needed.

  • Budget Oversight: Monitor camp funds, track expenditures, and ensure responsible stewardship of resources.

  • Emergency Preparedness: Maintain readiness for medical or behavioral emergencies and ensure staff are trained in appropriate response procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Teaching certification in Healthcare Science, Biology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Minimum of 2¿3 years of experience in healthcare or science education.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in program coordination, staff supervision, or student activities.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (American Heart Association), or ability to obtain prior to camp start.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Completion of required University System of Georgia (USG) training modules related to Minors on Campus policies prior to program start.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional healthcare credentials (e.g., RN, LPN, MD, DC, PT, or related).
  • Experience leading camps, student organizations (e.g., HOSA), or STEM-related extracurricular programs.
  • Familiarity with simulation equipment, including manikins, vital sign monitors, and laboratory tools.
  • Ability to design engaging, hands-on learning experiences and real-world healthcare scenarios.

Proposed Salary

  • Stipend: $2,700.00
  • Note: Meals will not be provided.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Healthcare Science Camp Director reports to the Project Coordinator and exercises direct supervision over Camp Counselors and other assigned personnel.

  • Work is guided by the Department of Community Health¿s Georgia¿s Rural Enhancement and Transformation of Health (GREAT Health) grant; institutional policies and procedures; University System of Georgia regulations; accreditation standards (e.g., SACSCOC); and applicable state and federal laws. These frameworks require sound professional judgment in their interpretation and application..

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • This position involves managing a multifaceted program requiring coordination of academic instruction, student engagement, personnel management, and operational logistics within a defined timeframe.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Program dates: July 13¿16, 2026.

  • Work includes supervision of indoor labs, outdoor activities, and potential field experiences.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for extended periods is required.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

  • This position includes direct supervision of assigned staff and oversight of camp operations.
