Working Hours and/or Working Conditions

To be determined by the nursing program, but not to exceed 30 hours per week for 42 weeks. May include occasional evenings and/or weekends.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Clinical and computer skills must be current and relevant. Theoretical knowledge and sound Adult Learning Theory.

Supervision

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Associate Dean of Health and Human Services. Works collaboratively with Instructional Technology, Health and Human Services and other college departments. SUPERVISION GIVEN: None.

Job Function

Provide coordination of Nursing Laboratory services available as ascribed by associate degree and licensed practical nursing faculty (full and part-time) to enhance student nurse learning needs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan, initiate, and implement remedial approaches to student nurse learning needs as prescribed by the nursing faculty and/or identified by the student.
  • Coordinate the hours of lab operation with nursing faculty and students to enhance accessibility for students to meet their learning needs.
  • Collaborate with Manger of Nursing Program regarding student success.
  • Maintain data collection and reports regarding the nursing laboratory utilization.
  • Foster a climate of learning and achievement with nursing students.
  • Advise faculty with state-of-the-art remedial approaches and software programs.
  • Support and coordinate the use of the Nursing Laboratory with community healthcare partners.
  • Collaborate with Human Patient Simulation coordinator and faculty regarding creative use of Human Patient Simulation lab and Nursing Skills lab.
  • Assist Human Patient Simulation coordinator with researching updated technology for use in skills lab.
  • Assist in collaborating with community agencies regarding use of Human Patient Simulation resources for educational purposes.
  • Collaborate with Laboratory supervisor regarding anticipated purchases and grant allocations.
  • Actively participate in nursing accreditation processes.
  • Attend department and college meetings as assigned.
  • Coordinate maintenance, upgrades, and new installation of hardware/software in the Nursing Computer lab with Instructional Technology.
  • Maintains schedule of Nursing Skills Lab.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Michigan. BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) required. Five years of current experience in the Medical-Surgical settings of a health care facility. Teaching/Preceptor experience desirable.
