Nursing Professional Development Specialist
Are you passionate about advancing care management excellence, elevating patient outcomes, and shaping the future of care management education? We are seeking a dynamic Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Specialist to lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of innovative, evidence-based educational programs that empower care management and utilization management teams.
In this role, you'll act as an educator, leader, and change agent-driving professional growth, promoting best practices, and fostering a culture of continuous learning. You'll collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to bridge knowledge gaps, enhance clinical performance, and influence both individual and system-wide outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and deliver evidence-based educational programs that support onboarding, orientation, and ongoing professional development for inpatient care management staff
Conduct needs assessments to identify knowledge, skill, and performance gaps; analyze data to inform program development and priorities
Lead initiatives using ANPD standards, applying roles such as advisor, mentor, collaborator, researcher, and change agent
Develop measurable outcomes aligned with organizational goals, regulatory standards, and best practices
Plan and execute educational strategies incorporating adult learning theory, behavioral change models, and diverse teaching methodologies
Evaluate program effectiveness, analyze ROI, and continuously improve learning initiatives
Facilitate both in-person and virtual learning experiences tailored to diverse learner needs and cultural perspectives
Promote the integration of evidence-based practice to improve patient care, safety, and quality outcomes
Partner with interdisciplinary teams to support quality improvement and organizational excellence initiatives
Mentor and support professional growth of care management nurses and social workers
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Master's Degree in Nursing OR
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing AND Master's Degree in Education or a related field
Minimum of 3 years of experience in inpatient care management, including teaching, training, or program development
Licensure & Certification
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
Care Management Certification (ACM or CCM) (required within 6 months of hire)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong expertise in adult learning theory and instructional design
Proficiency in delivering both in-person and virtual education programs
Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities
Ability to manage projects, drive change, and influence at multiple levels
Skilled in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and build professional partnerships

Responsible for developing, implementing and leading evidence-based, quality educational programs and activities which promote individual development and competency among inpatient care management and utilization management department personnel. Develops, coordinates and implements activities for orientation/onboarding of care management application (practice, policy, products) and continuing education/professional development related to system, site and/or specialty. Provides clinical and educational expertise that directly or indirectly influences nurses and healthcare personnel, systems, and community. Designs, implements, and evaluates educational programs that reflect organizational vision and values with awareness of current healthcare trends. Uses the roles of advisor, change agent, collaborator, communicator, consultant, facilitator, leader, mentor, researcher to impact patient safety and quality outcomes through professional development initiatives. Promotes the generation and dissemination of new knowledge and use of evidence to guide clinical practice and improve patient care while advancing professional development. The role may be based at the system, at the site reporting to the system or at the site reporting to the respective site and may teach, develop or support NEPD programs at the site, region or system level.
