Nursing Program Coordinator- Blank Pediatrics Hematology/Oncology Clinic

The Nursing Program Coordinator plays a pivotal role in guiding pediatric cancer patients and their families through every stage of the care journey. This position ensures seamless coordination of services, promoting continuity of care while delivering compassionate, patient-centered support.
Serving as a key liaison, the coordinator provides comprehensive education to patients and families, empowering them with the knowledge and resources needed to navigate complex treatment plans. This role actively connects families to a broad network of support services, including both community resources and specialized programs offered through Blank Children’s Hospital and UnityPoint Health–Des Moines.
By fostering collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and advocating for patient needs, the Nursing Program Coordinator enhances the overall patient experience and contributes to improved clinical outcomes in oncology care.

Responsibilities:
Care Coordination
- Provides appropriate education for the client, the family, health care team and the community regarding cancer.
- Has expertise in cancer disease process and is able to effectively communicate this information to the community and patients.
- Develops effective communication system with patients, community and referring physicians.
- Identifies and provides support to appropriate clients for cancer coordination.
- Coordinates different providers responsible for furnishing services needed by the patient with cancer.
- Connects patients, family, and staff with resources regarding cancer issues.
Clinical Excellence/Patient Education
- Serves as an advocate in the community for cancer health promotion activities.
- Provides support and input into planning goals and objectives for care of the cancer patient at Blank.
- Assists in quality improvement projects and customer service excellence by exceeding expectations
Qualifications:
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or IA Board of Nursing approved nursing program.
License(s)/Certification(s):
- Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa
Experience:
- Minimum of two years experience in hematology/oncology
- Demonstrated teaching ability using developmental and adult education principles
Other:
- Level 2; Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Requires walking or standing to a significant degree, pushing or pulling arm or leg controls or maintaining a production rate pace. Light work requires physical exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work.
