Description
The Nursing Technician - Nursing Secretary supports the unit with clerical and receptionist duties while also supporting the Registered Nurse with patient care. Working under close supervision, this role provides basic care and communication support for patients, families, and hospital staff.
Essential Job Function:
Assists patients with basic care, including bathing, shaving, and taking vital signs to support mobility and recovery.
Provides meals and supplements to patients and notifies the Registered Nurse of any significant changes in patient condition.
Helps admit, transfer, and discharge patients in order to ensure that patients are promptly served and that beds are available as needed.
Supports the Registered Nurse by completing hourly rounding and responding to patient needs across different units.
Monitors inventory of supplies, equipment, and instruments and requests more materials as needed to ensure that daily operations can be completed.
Documents charges and accommodation codes in order to ensure accurate record keeping for the hospital.
Observes equipment and communicates when maintenance and repairs are needed to support smooth operations and avoid patient injury.
Performs simple receptionist duties, including answering phone calls and greeting visitors, to support clients and customers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Required: None.
Licensure/Certification/Listing:
Required: Certification required by State of North Carolina DHHR. Nurse Aide Certification required. BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
