Job Title: Nutrition and Garden Fellow - Student Position
Fellow Reports to: Nutrition Program Manager
Hours: Summer Position - Approximately 19 hours, work week

Position Summary
The Dempsey Center’s Garden and Nutrition Program is a comprehensive program providing nutrition and culinary education with an emphasis on good health and cancer risk reduction. Our volunteer run gardens provide produce to support educational and culinary programs, Dempsey Comfort Soups, and other programs that utilize fresh produce and botanicals from the gardens. With the assistance of a Nutrition and Garden Fellow, the focus for the approaching garden season is to help us expand upon and make improvements to our prolific and popular Nutrition education and Garden programs.
The Dempsey Garden Fellow will work under the supervision of the Nutrition Program Manager and in collaboration with Dempsey staff and nutrition and garden volunteers. The Nutrition Fellow position will require an individual who is independent, organized, and an excellent communicator. Candidates for this position will have the background and ability to execute key aspects of the role.

Key aspects of the role include:
• Assist Nutrition Program manager in the development of collateral materials utilized in cooking demonstrations and nutrition education programs.
• Assist Nutrition Program Manager to develop a plan for and coordinate the distribution of produce to clients of the center on a weekly basis.
• Engage, communicate and coordinate with volunteers of the Dempsey Garden and Nutrition Program.
• Coordinate transport of produce from garden to the center to optimize time from harvest to end consumer.
• Coordinate utilization of garden produce in the center’s nutrition and cooking classes.
• Oversee the distribution of Dempsey Garden produce
• Collect and compile data related to garden harvest and distribution
• Additional projects as needed to facilitate the program.

Qualifications:
Our ideal candidate would be in the process of pursuing a degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Culinary Medicine, Agriculture, Environmental Sustainability, or a related field.

Language Skills
Ability to effectively communicate with staff, volunteers, and members of the community.
Math Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
Computer Operations
Intermediate or better proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Excel, and Outlook, or equivalent.
