Nutrition Associate I - Part-Time PRN

Location: AdventHealth Shawnee Mission

Schedule: Part-Time PRN | Evenings and Weekends

The Nutrition Associate I supports a variety of essential functions throughout the Food and Nutrition Services department, including patient meal service, café operations, food preparation, sanitation, and dish-room responsibilities. This versatile role helps ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality foodservice while delivering outstanding customer service and maintaining compliance with food safety and sanitation standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and assemble hot and cold food items, beverages, and nourishments using standardized recipes and production guidelines.

  • Assist with patient tray assembly and meal service while ensuring accuracy, quality, and timely delivery.

  • Deliver patient meals using approved patient identification procedures and following isolation and infection prevention protocols.

  • Stock, rotate, and maintain nursing pantries and bulk nourishments while documenting inventory and billing information accurately.

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, kitchen equipment, floors, dish-room, and food preparation areas.

  • Safely operate dish-room equipment and ensure dishes, utensils, and food service equipment are properly cleaned and sanitized.

  • Operate café cash registers and point-of-sale systems while processing customer transactions accurately and providing excellent customer service.

  • Monitor and document food temperatures, sanitation logs, and cleaning records while taking appropriate corrective actions when necessary.

  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels and stock supplies throughout assigned work areas.

  • Practice safe food handling and sanitation procedures in compliance with department policies and regulatory standards.

  • Support daily Food and Nutrition Services operations by adapting to changing departmental needs.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices

  • Ability to prepare and serve food according to standardized recipes and quality standards

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare food service environment

  • Ability to safely operate kitchen, dish room, and café equipment

  • Experience using Point-of-Sale (POS systems - Preferred

  • Basic mathematical skills for cash handling and food service operations

  • Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required documentation

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to read, write, and speak conversational English

  • Ability to work collaboratively with patients, visitors, and interdisciplinary team members

  • Commitment to maintaining cleanliness, safety, and exceptional customer service

  • Basic Microsoft Office skills - Preferred

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish - Preferred

Experience

  • One year of food service or related experience - Preferred

  • One year of experience as a dietary aide, diet clerk, hospital foodservice associate, or healthcare food service team member - Preferred

Licensure & Certifications

  • ServSafe Certification - Preferred
