Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Manager- Nutrition Services and the general guidance of the Director- Food Services, Food Service Lead or Cook Resource the Nutrition Care Representative is responsible for coordinating the assembly of patient meals during the tray line process, as well as obtaining meal orders from patients and/or visitors. Responsible for ensuring meals ordered meet patient's dietary parameters.
For employees who hold both a Cook and Nutrition Care Representative position, they may be required to cover a food service worker shift. When covering a food service worker shift the employee will be paid at their primary rate. For any employee who has two positions that are not Cook and Nutrition Care Representative, they will be paid at rates appropriate to each position. For example an employee with Cook and NCR role who covers a food service worker position, will be paid at cook rate. An employee who has a cook and food service worker position, and covers food service worker position---will be paid at food service worker rate.
Education
High School Graduate or Equivalent.
Certification, Registration & Licensure
None required.
Experience
None required. 6 months related experience and will consider equivalent education and experience preferred.
Responsibilities
Maintains list of patient admissions via computerized ADT/food ordering system, which interfaces with our EMR. Establishes contact with our patients for obtaining their meal orders and providing a menu for the diet prescribed by the physician.
Processes diet orders from the patient care units from EMR into computerized ordering system.
Obtains meal orders from patients and visitors, being accurate with following diet constraints and texture modifications.
Coordinates the assembly of patient meals during "tray line process."
Verifies all patient meal orders for accuracy and acceptability.
Rejects any unacceptable food items and requests replacements.
Follows proper food handling techniques according to designed standards.
Ensures the timely delivery of food carts to the nursing units.
Ability to deliver, set up and collect patient trays, with proper documentation of the percent of meal eaten.
Replenishes supplies on the tray line. Ensures the integrity of stored food items on the tray line.
Communicates with members of the department regarding production and tray line and with multi-disciplinary team members effectively and efficiently to meet the needs of the patients.
Serves meals to patients in a professional and efficient manner. Delivers between meal nourishments directly to patients.
Documents and maintains required information as appropriate in patient computerized ordering system, per room service protocols.
Mediates patient care concerns/needs regarding meal service as appropriate to lead, manager and or Clinical Dietitian.
Ability to work in a self-paced, time sensitive, self-directed position. Must be confident with asking for assistance and direction as needed.
Acts as a liaison between Food & Nutrition Services, the patient and the nursing units.
Carries duties and responsibilities in a professional manner paying particular attention to customer relations.
Serves as a quality assurance control point for every aspect of the room service program. Reports any quality, safety, security, or service concerns to appropriate manager.
Consistently presents oneself in a professional image and support the hospital's mission, vision, values and service behaviors. Ensures all actions reflect the overall goals of the room service program.
