Summary

Nutrition Worker provides food preparation and serving work within a hospital setting. Work involves assistance to cooks, dietitians and other personnel in kitchens or dining rooms in a variety of food preparation tasks such as cleaning and chopping fruit and vegetables, weighing, measuring and assembling ingredients for various recipes and special diets, preparing coffee in large volume, portioning and cutting desserts and serving food in cafeterias, dining rooms and patient areas.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares various foods and beverages for patients, cafeteria and catering. Assembles, portions, wraps and serves foods on tray-line, cafeteria line and for catered functions.
  • Sets up tray line stations, serving areas, dining room with supplies ready for service.
  • Replenishes as needed. Maintains work area in a clean, neat and orderly manner, performing cleaning, mopping and washing duties.
  • Disposes of trash, boxes and garbage as needed. Delivers and stores food and supplies in various areas.
  • Delivers and picks up food carts at designated times.
  • May be required to complete duties such as training of co-workers and ordering supplies. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience

Generally, requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.

Education

High School diploma is strongly preferred.

Skill

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.
