This position is only open to current Pacific University School of Occupational Therapy Students in the second or third year of the program.

Title: Student AI Curriculum Consultant - Occupational Therapy

Department and Location: School of Occupational Therapy, Hillsboro Campus, HPC2 3rd Floor

Purpose: The Student AI Curriculum Consultant position utilizes a pedagogical partnership model to facilitate student-faculty collaboration in transitioning the School of Occupational Therapy (SOT) from an AI-reactive framework to a proactive model of intentional pedagogical integration. Student AI Curriculum Consultants will partner directly with the SOT AI Task Force to bridge the "student-professor divide" in developing policy and protocol for the school regarding artificial intelligence. Consultants will co-lead a comprehensive curricular audit, test and co-design AI-augmented assignments, and provide feedback on program-wide AI policies that aim to ensure SOT graduates are prepared for an AI-mediated, modern healthcare workforce. Much of the work will be asynchronous, with semi-regular meetings.

Wage: $16.80

Length of Employment: Fall 2026 and Spring 2027

Hours: Total Allotted Hours-Up to 45 hours per student across the fall 2026 and spring 2027 semesters.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties and timeline are outlined in the table below. This position is grant-funded, and therefore will follow a structured, phased rollout across the academic year as outlined in the grant proposal. General duties also include:

  • Engage as an active co-designer with the SOT AI Task Force, identified faculty members, and peer Student AI Curriculum Consultant to review syllabi and propose and/or co-construct AI-integrated learning activities.
  • Deliver clear, constructive, and timely feedback related to the clarity, implications, and realities of student AI use and program policies.
  • Meet regularly with the AI Task Force for training, workload delegation, and debriefing.
  • Engage in additional duties as negotiated with the SOT AI Task Force. This may include assisting with materials for faculty development workshops, aligning learning activities with emerging workforce trends, or contributing student perspectives to the final SOT AI Integration Roadmap.

Assessment and audit

  • Co-lead and support a comprehensive curricular audit to identify high-priority courses where AI fluency is essential and standards that may be impacted by AI
  • Gather and record feedback from peers regarding student-facing Phase I AI "guardrail" policies

Spring 2027

Co-design

  • Co-create and beta-test AI-resilient assessments and learning activities
  • Review proposed AI policies and provide feedback on their clarity from a student perspective
  • Participate in qualitative data collection (pending IRB approval) to evaluate the impact of the partnership

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled second- or third-year Pacific University School of Occupational Therapy student.
  • While you don't need to be a technical expert, you should have basic, firsthand familiarity with using generative AI tools for academic, professional, or efficiency purposes, and should understand their common use cases. Regular personal utilization is not needed.
  • You do not need to love AI, be an uncritical advocate for it, or even be fully comfortable with its placement in higher education to apply. A healthy skepticism is welcome! The goal is a realistic, critical look at when and how to potentially integrate these tools into courses and the curriculum at large.
  • Have an interest in teaching and learning, specifically regarding how generative AI can scaffold professional development and clinical/professional reasoning without replacing human judgment.
  • Commit to approximately 1.5 hours per week across the 30 weeks of the fall and spring semesters (totaling 45 hours per student over the academic year). This may fluctuate slightly, where there are periods of higher time demand than others, in coordination with the student and the task force. Much of the work will be asynchronous.
