Title of Position: NWS Summer Housing Assistant

Position OverviewHousing Assistants play a pivotal role in Campus Living's preparations for the return of students in Fall 2026. Key responsibilities include readying rooms for resident arrivals, ensuring campus living spaces are prepared, which is vital to fostering a smooth transition for all.

Responsibilities

  • Work autonomously and collaboratively to complete tasks, maintaining open lines of communication with supervisors throughout
  • Conduct thorough room inspections, documenting condition details firsthand
  • Maintain precise records of checked and pending rooms
  • Initiate work requests as necessary and communicate with Campus Living staff regarding rooms requiring significant repairs
  • Create and post door decs for all early arrival students
  • Place New Student Orientation bulletin boards in residence halls
  • Hang hall informational signs, including those related to early arrivals, move-in, and student resources
  • Maintain self-motivation to execute tasks meticulously and comprehensively
  • Hang early arrival and move-in-related signage
  • Complete tasks accurately and with integrity
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned

Position Details

  • Duration: Monday, July 6, 2026 - Friday, August 7, 2026

  • Work Setting: This is a part-time, in-person (not remote) position based on the Forest Grove Campus. Housing Assistants work in all of the residence areas, including in typical office environments, in community spaces, in student rooms, and in traversing through the exteriors and interiors of each building. Additionally, training and meetings are held in residence halls as well as academic buildings on campus.

  • Schedule Expectations:

  • Typically 25 hours per week (about 5 hours/day), scheduled during standard business hours Monday-Friday, based on departmental needs and supervisor direction.

  • Some evening and weekend work required

  • This position is not eligible for overtime

  • Compensation: $16.80

  • Lunch Break: 30 minute unpaid lunch break each shift, as required by law

  • Campus Housing Provided: Required to live on campus during employment; on-campus housing in Cascade Hall will be provided, with early access to move into Fall campus housing assignment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student, registered for Fall 2026
  • Must be in good academic and conduct standing (including minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0).
  • Must be available to work the full duration of the position.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities with attention to detail and organization.
  • Prior experience with administrative tasks in a college residential environment is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Medium work - involves lifting up to 40 pounds
  • Visual acuity - ability to see and interpret visual information
  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Repetitive hand movements such as grasping and fine motor tasks
  • Talking and hearing to communicate with others
