At CHI St. Alexius, OB/GYNs have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by providing inpatient coverage that enhances work-life balance for local physicians while improving efficiency and productivity across clinics. This role focuses on championing quality and safety for expectant and postpartum mothers, supporting the hospital’s commitment to exceptional maternal care. OB/GYNs also collaborate in provider education by leading OB emergency drills, mentoring family practice residents, and offering hands-on training for nurses to strengthen team readiness and satisfaction. Additionally, CNM coverage in the clinic expands patient access to care, reinforcing CHI St. Alexius’ culture of excellence and continuous improvement in women’s health. Currently they perform approximately 685 annual deliveries and see 778 triage visits.

What Does an OB/GYN Hospitalist Do?
Caring for all pregnant women who present emergently, regardless of circumstance
Cultivating relationships with staff nurses and hospital personnel
Supporting private practice physicians by providing coverage and assistance
Caring for unassigned patients
Evaluating and treating triage patients
Providing consultation to the ED
Monitoring labor and Delivering babies
Performing surgery and surgical assists
Evaluating and treating postpartum patients
Assisting with OB residents and medical student education
Providing nurse support and education
Participating in emergency drills and simulations
Developing best practices
Participating in clinical trials
Facilitating daily interdisciplinary board rounds to improve patient safety
