Perform ultrasound procedures on patients.

Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works in the OB-GYN department
  • Operate ultrasound equipment on patients to produce and record images of specific body areas as requested by physicians
  • Explain procedures to patients
  • Report results to physicians; notify physicians regarding concerns/significant findings/results
  • Record/upload ultrasound results/reports in the electronic medical record
  • Clean/sterilize sonographic equipment
  • Assess/troubleshoot and repair or arrange for repair/servicing of sonographic equipment
  • Schedule/confirm appointments with patients
  • Establish and maintain productive working relationships with people inside and outside the department and/or practice

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in research projects and studies
  • Participate in training of fellows/students
  • Other duties as may be assigned

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in Medical Diagnostic Sonography from an accredited program required
  • Certification from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) preferred
  • 1-2 years Sonographer experience required

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills to convey and receive information effectively (face-to-face, telephone and electronic)
  • Good analytical and judgment skills
  • Ability to use computer software programs and systems
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patients, personnel and/or financial data
  • Excellent organizational skills to work independently, prioritize, handle multiple tasks and manage time

Safety Requirements:

  • Compliance with departmental Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Mandatory TB test annually (based on Department guidelines)

  • 40-hour workweek
  • Hours and days to be determined by the business needs of the department
  • May require travel to off-site locations
  • May require on-call duty and the ability to work outside of scheduled work hours when the need arises
