Job Description
Join Our Obstetric Anesthesiology Team

The Department of Anesthesiology at our organization is actively looking for fellowship-trained Obstetric Anesthesiologists at all levels to enhance our obstetric anesthesia faculty. This is a remarkable chance to work in a collaborative and academically driven environment within the only academic medical center and Level 1 trauma center in the Capital Region. Our Obstetric Anesthesia program has been recognized as a SOAP Center of Excellence (COE) since 2016, reflecting our commitment to excellence in obstetric anesthesia care.

About the Role

Our practice caters to both healthy parturients and those with complex medical conditions. There are opportunities to provide anesthesia care for obstetric patients beyond the labor and delivery suite, including interventional radiology and general operating rooms for non-obstetric surgeries. Our institution sees approximately 2,500 deliveries each year, with over 50% of our patient population classified as high-risk or managed by Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM). We have a wide referral network, accepting high-risk cases from various counties in New York and eastern Vermont, ensuring a high level of specialized care.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical Care: Deliver safe and high-quality anesthesia services for parturients in both inpatient and outpatient environments. Conduct antepartum OB anesthesia consultations for high-risk cases referred to our division by perinatal outreach/MFM. The clinical responsibilities extend beyond deliveries to include antepartum non-obstetric surgeries, external cephalic version (ECV), and cerclage placements.
  • Education: Provide both didactic and practical training for residents, medical students, and student nurse anesthetists.
  • Research: Engage in or initiate clinical research projects; scholarly activities are actively supported and encouraged.
  • Collaboration: Partner closely with obstetricians, OB residents, labor and delivery nurses, and other perioperative team members to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Mentorship: Offer guidance and support to trainees and junior faculty in their professional and academic development.
Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree (or equivalent)
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Anesthesiology residency
  • Fellowship training in Obstetric Anesthesiology (mandatory)
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in New York State
  • Board-eligible or board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology, or a recognized foreign equivalent
Salary & Benefits

We offer a competitive salary for the Assistant Professor level, ranging from $391,000 to $411,000, with discussions for higher ranks following interviews. Additional benefits include a generous sign-on bonus of up to $45,000, relocation assistance of up to $7,500, and opportunities for overtime compensation.
