PeaceHealth is seeking a Obstetrical Technician - Labor & Delivery for a Per Diem/Relief, 0.00 FTE, Variable position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $25.82 - $35.36. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
This position will fill in for scheduled PTO, sick calls, and coverage for leave of absence. The greatest need is for night shift (6:00pm - 6:00am).
This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement. There may be more than one opening on this posting.
Job Summary
The Obstetrical Technician is a team member working under the direction of the Unit Manager, Charge Nurse, and nursing staff in the delivery of care to the obstetrical patient and her infant using a patient/family-centered model in compliance with professional practice and unit standards. Responsibilities include but are not limited to preparing patient, equipment and supply for delivery; special obstetrical procedures; and assisting the obstetrical surgical team.
Details of the Position
- Perform a variety of patient care tasks as directed by the nursing staff effectively and independently on OB cases as assigned. May include scrubbing as allowed by state requirements.
- Maintain unit supplies by requisitioning and receiving supplies then stocking patient rooms and supply areas to meet patient care needs. Inventory control.
- Participates in and practices proper safety management including infection control.
- Completes room and instrument set-up and clean-up process in operating room and labor rooms. Sort, clean and inspect surgical instruments in accordance with standard procedures and techniques.
- Obtain and record patient data for health record; conduct, collect, and deliver routine tests on patient specimens; assist staff with special unit procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
Education
- High School Diploma Preferred: or equivalent
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year Preferred: Experience in an acute care facility
- Minimum of 1 year Preferred: Experience as an OB surgical technologist
- Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient's needs.
Credentials
- Required: Certified Nurse Assistant - Washington (Washington Requirement) or
- Required: Surgical Technician - Washington (Washington Requirement) and
- Required: Upon Hire Basic Life Support

Working Conditions
Lifting
- Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
- Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
- Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment (i.e. stretchers, wheelchairs, etc.).
- Frequent bending/ kneeling/ squatting/ stooping/ reaching/ grasping.
- Lift/Carry: Occasionally up to 25 lbs.
- Push/Pull: Occasionally up to 50 lbs. force.
Environmental Conditions
- Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
- Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.
Mental/Visual
- Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
