    Additional Information About the Role

    Obstetrics (OB) Department

    The OB Department provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient gynecology, obstetrical, and newborn care services. Responsibilities include patient assessment and treatment, medication administration, patient education, and discharge planning for individuals requiring OB nursing care.

    Position Details

    • Schedule: Part-Time Nights (24 hours per week)
    • Shift: 12-hour shifts, 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
    • Experience Required: OB, Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and/or Nursery RN experience

    Unit Highlights

    • Level I Nursery
    • 5 Labor & Delivery/Triage Suites
    • 6 Private Postpartum Rooms
    • 4 Semi-Private Postpartum Rooms
    • Average Patient Volume: 40-60 deliveries per month

     


    Overview

    As part of BJC HealthCare, Parkland Health Center offers a unique combination of world-class medicine along with the deep local roots and rich history of its three predecessors – Bonne Terre Hospital (opened in 1911), Mineral Area Regional Medical Center (1952), and Farmington Community Hospital (1969). Parkland Health Center has two locations in St. Francois County, Missouri – a full-service acute care hospital in Farmington as well as a rural emergency hospital in Bonne Terre. Parkland Health Center provides quality primary and secondary level inpatient and outpatient services to the people of St. Francois County and surrounding areas in southeastern Missouri.

     

    In addition, Parkland’s Farmington campus offers a full continuum of inpatient and medical-surgical and intensive care, obstetrics and emergency services, along with a wide variety of outpatient services including oncology services, an infusion center, a wound care clinic, and the Huckstep Heart and Lung Center.  Bonne Terre is a Rural Emergency Hospital providing emergency services and outpatient services including medical observation, lab, radiology, and sleep study.

    The OB Department provides support for inpatient and outpatient gynecology, obstetrical, and newborn care to those patients in need of OB nursing services inclusive of treatment, medication, patient teaching and discharge planning.


    Preferred Qualifications

    Role Purpose

    Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.
    • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
    • Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
    • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
    • BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
