Position Summary

Responsible for the provision of quality medical care and Occupational Health services to contracted employers and organizations both on-site at client locations and in co-located HFHS clinics. Services include: provision of immediate care for work related injuries, management of treatment plan and return to work for work related injuries including transitional work opportunities, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) required examinations, pre-employment examinations, health screenings, Mobile Health One services, and other health promotion and prevention programs as requested by clients.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate excellent, professional, compassionate and quality clinical care based on established guidelines and protocols.
  • Work-site at both company and HFHS locations performing occupational health services which include pre-placement exams, clinical triage and treatment of emergent/urgent injuries, basic medical intervention, employability determination, transitional work opportunities, sickness and accident medical leaves, annual infection control, blood borne pathogen program, and travel immunizations.
  • Detect and treat workers' compensation, and sickness and accident reported injury and illness in the work place.
  • Care coordination will include support and assistance in regulatory compliance (NIDA drug screen, OSHA, ADA) and streamline processes for treating clinicians.
  • Participate in a clinical consulting network either within or outside HFHS which will provide high quality care and fast response to program needs (Grand Rounds, company workers' compensation, and benefits representative, ergonomics team).
  • Promotion of continuous quality improvement by using data related to outcomes assessments, practice guidelines and other methods.
  • Application of the knowledge of toxicology, epidemiology, ergonomics, biostatistics, and related disciplines of occupational and environmental medicine.
  • Works with Henry Ford Health System's information management system which will allow and facilitate the prompt and efficient management of clinical cases and reasonable expected outcomes for a variety of clinical conditions.

Contact with Others

Works closely and communicates frequently with the Medical Director and Director of Occupational Health and with other physicians and non-physician, clinical and management staff of the Program. Communicates frequently with executives and line managers of companies which contract with the Program for services and with health care providers to whom employees of the contract company might be referred.

Reporting Relationship

Reports to the Medical Director of Occupational Health, for clinical matters and through the Director of Occupational Health, for administrative matters.

Qualifications

  • Board certification as a specialist in Preventive Medicine, or three years experience in an occupational health setting and board certification in a related specialty.
  • Certification as a Medical Review Officer for drug and alcohol program services.
  • Certification as a federal DOT examiner for Commercial Drivers License services.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with personnel with a variety of backgrounds.
  • A commitment to continuous quality improvement and team-oriented leadership.
