    Job Description

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education – Graduate of an accredited Associate Degree program for Occupational Therapy Assistants recognized by the National Board Certification of Occupational Therapists.

    Experience – Minimum of one (1) year or relevant experience required.

    Licenses & Certification – Incumbent must possess current State of Oklahoma Licensure for Occupational Therapist Assistants.

    Knowledge & Skills –

    1. Knowledge and experience of the principles and procedures of Occupational Therapy and its relationship to health, treatment and prevention of disability, quality of life issues and the value of interdisciplinary interaction through supervision and monitoring of an Occupational  Therapy Program.

    2. Ability and skill in providing occupational therapy treatments and procedures in accordance with State laws to assist in development of treatment plans, carry out routine functions, document the progress of treatment, and modify specific treatments in accordance with patient status and within the scope of treatment plans established by an occupational therapist.

    3. Knowledge of basic features of main occupational therapy theories, models of practice, principles, and evidence-based practice.

    4. Skills in gathering screening and evaluation data, completing checklists, histories, and interviews.

    5. Ability to select and adapt purposeful activities that support intervention goals.

    6. Ability to maintain safe environments, equipment, and materials.

    7. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and progress notes.

    8. Ability to use personal computers operating general office software in a Windows environment.

    9. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.

    10. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, medical staff, administrative staff, health care professionals and the general public both orally and in writing.

    11. Ability to remain calm and respond quickly in high stress situations as needed.

    JOB SUMMARY

    The purpose of the position is to create, organize, conduct, and administer medically prescribed therapeutic treatment programs to restore body functions and to prevent disability following disease, injury, etc.  

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Work is performed in an inpatient and ambulatory health care setting.  There is common exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials.  The work may include a certain amount of exposure to hostile and/or emotionally disturbed patients, families, and visitors. Must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as requested and required.  

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Work in the ambulatory health care setting requires considerable walking between exam and treatment rooms, and long periods of moving about the work unit. Work requires regular and recurring bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting of patients or similar activities. 

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:

    1. Provide direct patient care as part of a team to provide occupational therapy services under the direction and supervision of the occupational therapist. Implement selected patient interventions, obtain data related to the intervention provided, and make modifications to treatment either to progress the patient as directed by the occupational therapist or to ensure patient safety and comfort.

    2. Plan and carry out occupational therapy for general and post-surgical patients.

    3. Instruct, motivate, safeguard and assist patients as they perform skilled exercises and functional activities.

    4. Modify environment including equipment, materials and devices based on the intervention plan

    5. Monitor the effect of intervention and need for continuation, modification, or termination. Communication this information to occupational therapists and others to discuss and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment.

    6. Perform duties such as maintaining inventory, stocking supplies, answering telephones, and completing documentation in a timely manner.

    7. Keep clear and accurate records on patients seen in accordance with established policy and guidelines.

    8. Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings to communicate patient progress.

    9. Maintains and cleans equipment used by department and demonstrates responsible and proper use of supplies.

    10. Regular attendance is required.

    11. Perform other duties as required.
