Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for coordinating and providing restorative and rehabilitative Occupational Therapy services to participants both at the center and at home. The role involves working closely with physicians, rehabilitation staff, and other interdisciplinary team members to maximize participant independence and safety, as well as enhance performance of Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). The Occupational Therapist collaborates with the Physical Therapist to efficiently operate the rehabilitation department and is a member of the management team, facilitating collaborative relationships across the organization and with external stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct Occupational Therapy assessments to determine care needs, preferences, and goals of participants, and actively participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to develop participant care plans.
  • Deliver and document Occupational Therapy interventions in accordance with physician orders and/or agreed-upon care plans, including the use of devices, techniques, and activities to promote muscle re-education, perceptual-motor and cognitive function, balance, endurance, and other factors affecting independence in performing ADLs.
  • Supervise Therapy Assistants, providing training, instruction, and guidance needed to implement Functional Maintenance Programs (FMP).
  • Provide training and instructions to staff, participants, and caregivers/families in areas of Occupational Therapy relevant to their involvement with participants.
  • Order, track, and manage maintenance for equipment.
  • Remain alert to pertinent input from other team members, participants, and caregivers, and update the interdisciplinary team promptly of any changes in participants' condition or functional status.
  • Work with other team members to support smooth care transitions between settings (e.g., hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, home, etc.).
  • Participate in end-of-life care coordination and support.
  • Manage direct reports, including training, supervising, and mentoring.
  • Complete all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Protect privacy and maintain confidentiality of all procedures and information about team members, participants, and families.
  • Follow policies and procedures and participate in any required Quality Improvement activities, staff training, and meetings.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisors and team regarding workload and priorities.
  • Timely completion of all mandated trainings and education.
  • Timely completion of all mandated occupational health screenings as needed.
  • Exercise flexibility in performing assignments as business needs evolve.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of two years of Occupational Therapy experience in a clinical setting with a frail or elderly population.
  • Highly motivated, inspirational leader able to innovatively engage, support, and remove barriers for the team to ensure consistent achievement of established goals.
  • Occupational Therapy knowledge and skills necessary to treat frail, elderly participants with complex needs.
  • Two years of supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to mentor and develop team members.
  • Ability to process accurate information in a timely manner.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills in settings with seniors, their families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Experience leading in a data-driven organization, leveraging reports and data to prioritize and manage people and projects.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience and competency working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program (AOTA and ACOTE standards).
  • Initial Registration from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.
  • Licensed and/or eligible for licensure as required in the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Work Schedule

Full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
