Position Summary

Responsible for evaluation, planning, directing, and administering occupational therapy assessments and treatments as prescribed by a licensed physician. Administers treatments, assistive devices training and physical agents as prescribed by a referring physician in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of function, while learning to live with the limits of their capabilities. The staff therapist coordinates delegates and supervises responsibilities assigned to supportive staff (CNA, COTA etc.). The staff therapist participates in operational aspects of the department, maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in PIC activities. Ensures that patient clinical documentation and charges are accurate following hospital policy and procedures and practice act by laws. Participates in all infection control, departmental equipment training and preventative maintenance, organizational safety and fire safety programs.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Able to demonstrate competency in the following areas: Orthopedics, Medical, surgical, Neurological, Modalities, Wound care, Pediatrics, Neonatal, Geriatrics, Orthotics and out-patients' guidelines.
  • Follows daily productivity matrix guidelines, and accounts for productive/non-productive time. Performs evaluations, progress notes and charges following required guidelines for Electronic Medical Record.
  • Responsible for following out-patient Medicare guidelines, with documentation justifying medical necessity of services provided, documenting the effectiveness of the therapeutic interventions achieving short and long term goals as applicable in the EMR.
  • Ability to be responsible for daily coordination of daily patient care assignment care with rehab services team, nursing and members of interdisciplinary team as appropriate.
  • Ability to treat patients and their families with respect and dignity. Able to Identify andaddresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family. Following Hialeah Hospital communication standards, policies and procedures while interacting with patients, family members and colleagues.

Education/Experience/Licensure/Technical

  1. Education:
  2. Graduate from an accredited Occupational Therapy University Program; approved through the board of Occupational Therapy, Agency for Healthcare Administration and State of Florida
  1. Experience:
  2. Preferred one year of acute care experience with adults, geriatrics, orthopedics and knowledge of modalities applications.
  1. Knowledge of physical medicine, physical therapy modalities, physical therapy equipment use/maintenance, medical equipment, anatomy,physiology and basic pathology
  1. Ability to communicate effectively in English and strong written and verbal skills
  1. Software/Hardware:
  2. Computer knowledge/ Electronic Medical Record Documentation
  1. License/Certification:
  2. Licensed Occupational Therapist through the Board of Occupational Therapy, Agency for Healthcare Administration, State of Florida.
  1. Other:Current CPR certification
